They're also posting their evidence on YouTube -- and proving that they have every reason to be upset.

Two bad calls in particular, both on Florida's game-tying fourth-quarter drive, have caused the Razorback rage. The first, which you see above, was a personal foul called against Razorbacks defensive tackle Malcolm Sheppard for knocking Florida's Marcus Gilbert to the ground at the end of a play. The call is clearly ridiculous: It was Gilbert who tried to level Sheppard with a late hit, and all Sheppard did was lower his shoulder to absorb the hit. Just because Gilbert fell down and Sheppard didn't doesn't mean Sheppard was in the wrong.

The other call on that game-tying Florida drive, which you see above, was a pass interference penalty. The pass interference call doesn't inspire quite as much outrage as the personal foul -- mostly because pass interference is called so inconsistently that football fans have grown accustomed to bad calls -- but it was still a major gift from the officials to the Gators.

Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel calls them "two of the worst calls I've seen in quite some time" and notes that the calls were made by the same SEC officiating crew that was heavily criticized for an excessive celebration call that helped LSU beat Georgia two weeks ago. And that doesn't even include this non-call on what should have been offensive pass interference against Florida, on Florida's game-winning drive later in the fourth quarter:

We all know that officials are human beings who sometimes make mistakes, and we'll never have perfect officiating. But it sticks in the craws of Arkansas fans that they had three officiating errors go against them at the worst possible time on Saturday. The SEC has some explaining to do.

UPDATE: The SEC has admitted that the personal foul call was incorrect. The pass interference calls, the SEC says, were judgment calls at the discretion of the referee. The defense was awarded the overall practice victory, but all were in good spirits after the childlike festivities.

One of the reasons Carroll is such a great recruiter is that he convinces teenage football players they'll have fun if they come to USC. And really, what's more fun for a teenager than watching a couple of overweight middle-aged guys slide around in the mud?
Pete Carroll Makes His Line Coaches Slide in the Mud originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Thu, 15 Oct 2009 10:55:00 EST . Tate explained that as he launched himself into mid-air, he was thinking it was the Notre Dame band he was going to celebrate with:
"I thought the people were going to catch me, but I forgot that was Michigan State's band," Tate said. "And, like, I jumped up and they scattered real quick and there was the ground hitting me hard."
Tate is lucky he wasn't hurt -- or flagged for an excessive celebration penalty -- but since no harm was done on the play, we're all free to laugh at one of the funniest moments of this young college football season. And on that note, I'll leave you with this video remix of the Tate leap:

What did you think of the celebration? Tell me on Twitter @MichaelDavSmith.
Golden Tate on Celebration: 'I Forgot That Was Michigan State's Band' originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Tue, 22 Sep 2009 16:00:00 EST . But when have you ever seen them given the opportunity? I'm not one to scream racism from the rooftops, but I know racism when I see it. And this ladies and gents, is racism plain and simple. So I decided to eracism and sit down with sorority girls from the University of Tennessee last Friday.

I conducted an interview with five sorority girls in the majestic setting of a fraternity house trophy room on Tennessee's campus. The girls and I talked about life, love, Layla Kiffin, and the UCLA Bruins. I also asked all of them to make out with me. Since it was such an important event I even wore a suit for the first time since I last appeared in court. (Ed: As a lawyer. We think.) The result is the FanHouse Sorority Roundtable. Carroll returned the favor on Friday night with help from a very special guest -- legendary singer-songwriter Bill Withers.

Withers posed as an NCAA representative who warned players about a fictional fungus. "It's the only fungus I know associated with any bone damage," Withers said during his staged speech.

After revealing his true identity, the room erupted with laughter.

Carroll, known for staging pranks to lighten the team's mood, enlisted Withers' help because of a connection to "Lean on Me," a song Withers wrote nearly 40 years ago. Earlier in training camp, freshman linebacker Marquis Simmons led the entire team in a rendition of Withers' hit.

"He was more than willing to do it," Carroll said after the Trojans' morning practice Saturday. "It was an extraordinary gift he gave us, but he had a ball."

Withers closed his appearance with some advice for the players: "Don't lose sight of this camraderie that you have now, because the later you go in your life, the less access you will have to this friendship ... just don't let this go by without realizing that it's happening to you."

Hat Tip: The Wiz of Odds

Bill Withers Pays Special Visit to USC, 'Lean on Me' Singalong Ensues originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 12:00:00 EST . Greatly.

"I personally believe, if you ask me, 'Who's going to play in the national championship game?' I'd say it's going to be Florida and the University of Notre Dame," Holtz says. "They return 11 starters on offense. They return all three running backs, the two best wide receivers, they have a great defense coming back."

Obviously, we all know that Holtz loves Notre Dame, where he coached from 1986 to 1996. But he says his prediction that the Irish will play for the national championship has less to do with his love of the university than about his simple belief that Notre Dame has such an easy schedule this year that they should steamroll most of their opponents.

"They only play one team in the Top 37 preseason," Holtz sys. "Not that they'll be the No. 2 team in the country, but I do believe they'll be the best team in the stadium, and that's all they have to do."

Holtz does make a fair point there: Notre Dame's schedule is ridiculously easy, starting with Nevada at home, following up with three middle-of-the-pack Big Ten teams (at Michigan, Michigan State, at Purdue) and then a home game against Washington, which was 0-12 last year.

But even if Notre Dame does start 5-0, the sixth game is against USC, and that's the one game against a preseason Top 37 team Holtz refers to. Once the Trojans get done abusing the Irish, no one will be talking about Notre Dame in the national championship game. Not even Lou Holtz

What do you think of Holtz's prediction? Tell me on Twitter @MichaelDavSmith.
Lou Holtz: Notre Dame Will Play in BCS Title Game originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 09:40:00 EST . But after the Orange County Register publicized the video Tuesday, UCLA pulled it down.

What had Neuheisel so upset is that Carroll voted against Neuheisel's proposal to allow coaches to have their children with them on the sidelines during games. Neuheisel explained on the video that the Pac-10 has a rule that children aren't permitted on the sidelines during games, but Neuheisel wanted a waiver for coaches' children, because he thinks fathers and sons can bond on the sidelines during games. Neuheisel said the proposal was put to a vote at a meeting of Pac-10 coaches, and that the vote was 9-1, with only Carroll opposed.

As Neuheisel told the story, he addressed Carroll directly, saying, "I'm going to get you. I'm going to reel you in."

But now when you try to play the video on YouTube, you get a message saying, "This video has been removed by the user." Apparently someone at UCLA decided that going after Carroll so publicly wasn't a wise use of the university's official YouTube channel.

And anyway, I'm with Carroll when it comes to kids on the sidelines. The last thing college football needs is a Darren Baker situation.
UCLA Pulls YouTube Video of Rick Neuheisel Ripping Pete Carroll originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Wed, 17 Jun 2009 08:10:00 EST . During a recent Arizona State practice, the receiver pulled off a ridiculous behind-the-back catch (video after the jump). Its the kind of stunt that results in either a dropped ball or dropped jaws. Fortunately for Taylor, it was the latter.

He probably still got chewed out by his coach, but only after getting a pat on the back. Unfortunately it was only practice, we're talking about practice, and not a live game. Still awesome, but do it against an all Pac-10 corner and we've really got something here.
(Via Wild West)

YouTubesDay: Kerry Taylor's Behind-The-Back Catch originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 11:51:00 EST . Plenty of adults have issues with commitment, so kids are bound to have the occasional change of heart. I've never thought it was a terribly big deal when it happened, but it seems to be grounds for assault when a teenage athlete changes his/her mind on a college choice. One of those who has made that change on Signing Day is Kraig Appleton, a wide receiver from East St. Louis, Illinois. YouTube of his skillz is after the jump.

I'm not a scout, so I don't know how good Appleton is going to be at the next level. He looks like he has some wheels, and he uses his size pretty well for a young kid.

Anyway, Appleton had previously committed to Illinois. Somewhere along the line, however, he started to waver on his commitment, and he followed through on that wavering Wednesday.

Appleton has signed to play his college football at Wisconsin. Not surprisingly, Badger fans are a tad pleased with this.

Of course, as Jeff Potrykus points out, they're not so giddy when it goes the other way. That's the nature of fans, though. You expect that.

In cases like this, I've always felt that it's wrong for a school to continue recruiting someone who has already given a commitment elsewhere. That said, how do you stop it? The answer is that you don't. Good salespeople don't take "No" for an answer, and good recruiters are going to learn that mantra, too. It was a clear violation of college football rules, and the officials correctly penalized him for it.

The FOX announcers, who absolutely embarrassed themselves with the way they worshiped at the Tebow altar, were just as ridiculous as you'd expect them to be. Thom Brennaman said, "That might be the first thing he's ever done wrong in his life."

Brennaman's partner, Charles Davis, was even worse: He tried to excuse Tebow's behavior by saying, "he was backing away, which is good." Uh, no. Tebow had purposefully walked several yards downfield to get right into Harris' face before he did the Gator Chomp. He only started backing away when he was sure Harris had seen what he was doing. Last time I checked, getting in someone's face to taunt him, only to back away before he has a chance to respond, isn't "good."

Is this a big deal? No. Taunting goes on in every game. But it's absurd that the FOX announcers responded to a player committing a penalty -- a stupid, unsportsmanlike penalty that stopped the clock just when the Gators were trying to run it out -- by showering praise upon him.
BCS National Championship Game: FOX Praises Tim Tebow for Taunting Sooners originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 10:55:00 EST . It was baller and hysterical all at the same time. Well, not so fast, my friends. Turns out Donna Lopiano, a former CEO of the Women's Sports Foundation, didn't think so.

"[Maualuga is] my first-round pick for 'offensive' player of the year" and his dance behind Andrews "another example of a narcissistic, high-profile athlete believing that any behavior, no matter how inappropriate, is acceptable because of his status. For those who would laugh off, celebrate or enable this behavior, think twice. Ms. Andrews could be your sister, daughter or wife."

Since this is a serious matter, I'm not going to make the seemingly requisite "Erin Andrews as my wife" blogger joke. You know how I know it's serious? Rey even apologized (Go on. Kiss it.) according to a statement from USC.

"The situation was addressed immediately," the statement said. "Rey both e-mailed and spoke to Erin and apologized to her. He realized he made a mistake and used poor judgment. He deeply regrets his actions."

I see the inherent sexism that could be pulled out of this little stunt, but I also kind of tend to think that Andrews would (and probably did) laugh this whole thing off. That being said, it's still pretty awkward anytime a football player pulls off a sexist-related act on the field towards a female reporter, so, yeah, this is probably how it should have worked out.
Rey Maualuga Gets Blasted by Women's Sports Foundation, Apologizes to Erin Andrews originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 16:00:00 EST . Leading Oklahoma State just 35-31 with three minutes remaining, Oregon lined up at the Cowboys' 29-yard-line. What happened next was the stuff of legend.

From shotgun on first down, Oregon handed the ball off to six-foot-two, 230-pound tailback LeGarrette Blount. Oklahoma State's defense got tremendous penetration but Blount evaded the initial surge, made a cut to surge into open field and then strung together three great elements that will make this a famous run for many years.

First, he completely hurdled a defender at the 20-yard-line. We're talking soared right over him. Awesome stuff but we've seen that this year out of Beanie Wells and Knowshon Moreno.

Next, he maintained enough of a head of steam to power through a bloc of five defenders in front of, underneath and to the side of him.

Finally, the clincher. At the ten yard line, a final defender met him from the side, but Blount stuck out his left arm and held him off, stiff-arm style, the final ten yards while running diagonally. Brilliant stuff mixing so many great running elements from speed to power to stiff-arms to unteachable leaps. What great timing, as that run was the clincher that put the game away at 42-31. If you can't enjoy this you have no soul. Video after the jump.

Video: LeGarrette Blount Touchdown Run Emphatically Closes Out the Holiday Bowl originally appeared on NCAA Football FanHouse on Wed, 31 Dec 2008 03:15:00 EST .
