David Sills, all of 13 years old, has verbally committed to USC. Sills is a quarterback out of Bear, Del., who has drawn raves for his talent at such a young age.
"His skill set is off the chart," his personal coach Steve Clarkson told ESPN. "I've never seen anyone at his age do what he's been able to do." Clarkson has mentored other top quarterbacks in the past, including current USC starter Matt Barkley.
According to the ESPN, new USC coach Lane Kiffin received a verbal commitment from Sills on Thursday evening. "He's already six feet as a 13-year-old," Clarkson said. "And he's breaking down NFL footage."
If Sills has indeed verbally committed to USC, it would be an unprecedented moment for college football, and raises all sorts of questions about recruitment. Forget 2012, we're talking about the class of 2015 here.
Clarkson told ESPN that Sills received a scholarship offer after he called Kiffin to discuss a quarterback recruit for next year's class. According to Clarkson, that's when he told Kiffin about the teenager he's been tutoring in Delaware, and directed him to watch the YouTube video above.
(It should be noted that the video, replete with sappy background music and slo-mo portions, is posted under Clarkson's own "QBDreamMaker" YouTube account.)
Clarkson said Kiffin watched the compilation and called him back immediately to tell him Sills was "incredible" before asking how old the quarterback was.
According to the report, the Sills family called Kiffin to speak for the first time a couple of hours later. The teen's father, David Sills IV, told ESPN that USC had always been his son's dream school.
"I'm as shocked as anybody," Sills' father said. "I was just talking with friends yesterday about what it'll be like four years from now when David goes through the recruiting process. I never expected this to happen so soon."
Sills' father said that the family is going to head out to California in a few weeks and will meet Kiffin then. "We're excited to meet him," Sills' father said. "And we're excited to verbally commit. Hopefully it all works out in the future."
The future is the big keyword in all of this. A lot can change between a verbal commitment in early 2010 and when Sills actually pursues a college career. Lives change, opinions change, and even coaches change. Only time will tell what the future holds for the young phenom, but he certainly has the college football world buzzing now.

Anyone else find this a little disturbing? Kiffin's gone from shady to slightly creepy.
By 2015 this kid will have such a big head no one else on the team will be able to stand him. He will implode.
yea from school to college there are a lot of different guys rushing him in college than in high school
Kiffin is a jerk. Slightly creepy? Next he'll be signing the children of NFL stars in utero.
...This just in... Lane Kiffin offers scholarship to Tom Brady's sperm. Sperm verbally commits.
Can't they wait for the kid to finish puberty???
nothing shady about it at all.recruiting talent is part of the business.i don't care if the kid is 3 there is NOTHING wrong with talking to him.thats all that was done.a verbal commitment does not mean he will be playing at USC.Making that verbal does not make the kid a target (he's a QB,so he is THE target every down anyway). And lastly,I will put money on the odds the kid NEVER sees a snap past high school. Most likely he will suffer a career ending injury before he turns 18 anyway, that's just the nature of the beast.Sometimes I think the media just needs to make an issue out of a non issue just to fill airtime or column space.Once again,so what if 20 coaches try and get a verbal out of him.
Well he looks pretty good for his age, by making smart decesions in the pocket, & looking at least like a college quarterback in throwing motion & accuracy. Hope there's better to come.
Well, he'd better bulk up before he gets too much further along. Them little twigs he's running around on look like a defensive lineman's dream. High school and especially college defensive people are bigger, faster and smarter than the folks he plays against now. Let's see him maintain his concentration when 275lbs lands on him 9 or 10 times in a game.
Also better hope he doesn't get too distracted by cars, girls and drugs....
Nothing shady here at all. This kids parents take him to QB camps all over the country and he has always wanted to go to USC, long before Kiffin was the coach. If this is what the kid wants to do for his life so be it. Lots of kids that age are getting into drugs and other types of trouble. This kid should be applauded. Remember he can't sign a letter of intent for several years so the offer of a scholarship is more PR than anything else.
i have two words for everyone. todd marinovich. (hope i spelled his name right)
lmao at the tom brady sperm reference!
Kiffin is a child stalker. Oh, and Kiffin will have been to, like, 8 other schools by the time this kid graduates high school.
Wow, this is just totally WRONG! It would be one thing for Kiffin to call the kids parents and let them know how impressed he was, and that he would be keeping an eye on the kid as a possible future player for USC and maybe talk to them about summer training camps for the kids, etc... but to ask for a verbal "committment" from a 13 yr. old... just plain WRONG!!
Two questions: Haven't the kids parents been paying attention? Kiffin will probably be on to his next "dream job" in 2014.
That musis was horrible, and I will have it stuck in my head all day!
i was thinking the very same thing , but that kiffin will be gone from U.S.C. sooner than that .
Perhaps that is what thee parents were hoping for... the kid to go to USC without LAME as the coach.... best of all worlds.
Great story! We wish him the best.
How is this any differant to what we do for baseball all over the world...If it is okay for baseball it is fine fore football
13 is too young! Let's sell the CHILD to the highest bidder! Isn't there a requirement that college and pro teams have to wait until an athlete is at least 17 years old! In 5 year's that coach maybe long gone!
