Zac RobinsonThe secondary bowls are beginning to get their ducks in a row.

Multiple reports out of Dallas Tuesday said the AT&T Cotton Bowl has extended invitations to Oklahoma State and Ole Miss to meet in the Jan. 2 game at Jerry Jones' new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The invitation and acceptance will not be official until after Saturday's conference championship games when the BCS automatic and at-large berths are decided.

The Cotton Bowl has the first pick of Big 12 teams after the BCS makes its selection following the Texas-Nebraska Big 12 Championship game. Taking the Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-3) is a no-brainer for the Cotton Bowl organizers. The Cotton Bowl has the second pick in the SEC's bowl pecking order after the BCS and with the Capital One Bowl angling to take LSU, the 8-4 Rebels are a prime candidate for the storied Cotton Bowl.
OSU seemed on track for the program's first BCS bid until losing to rival Oklahoma this past weekend.

Ole Miss, meanwhile, is set to return to the Cotton Bowl for a second straight year after defeating Texas Tech, 47-34, last January 2 in the final Cotton Bowl game to be played at the historic Cotton Bowl. The Eli Manning-led Rebels defeated Oklahoma State 31-28 in the 2004 Cotton Bowl.

Officials at both Oklahoma State and Mississippi on Tuesday declined to confirm or deny that an invite from the Cotton Bowl had been made or accepted. Cotton Bowl spokesman Charlie Fiss did not immediately return a phone call.

In other bowl related news, SMU confirmed Tuesday it has accepted an invitation to play in the Dec. 24 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, marking the Mustangs first postseason bowl since 1984.
