SOUTH BEND, Ind -- Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen emerged from a fight outside a restaurant/bar with two black eyes in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to a report from a Chicago radio station. A bartender confirmed to FanHouse that the Clausen family was in the restaurant but said that no altercation took place on the premises."The Clausens were here," said the bartender, who was on duty at the time. "We were very busy and did not notice anything. It did not happen in our establishment or on our property, if it happened at all."
The bar and restaurant, C.J.'s Pub, is located about a mile south of the Notre Dame campus and is a popular postgame hangout for Notre Dame players.
David Kaplan of Chicago's WGN-AM first reported the alleged incident.
ESPN characterized the alleged fight as a "sucker punch" by an irate fan.
Clausen, who was still listed as a starter in the depth chart Monday, has not yet been made available to the media.
Notre Dame's captains -- including Clausen --will meet with the media on Wednesday.
If Clausen does not play, Evan Sharpley is expected to take his place. Sharpley has yet to throw a pass this season.
The alleged fight would be insult to injury for the Irish. Notre Dame lost its third straight game earlier in the day Saturday, falling to Connecticut in double overtime. Clausen completed 30 of 45 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. He also ran for a touchdown.
For the season, Clausen, a junior, has thrown for 3,382 and 23 touchdowns.
Notre Dame, 6-5, finishes its regular season Saturday against Stanford.

Claussen thumbs down. Your not a quarterback or were you ever. You acted like your the best, not. High School quarterbacks are better than you are and have a better attitude. Get off the mountain. This is the reason why Weis lost his job. Look at what he did in New England jimmy. You will never make it in the NFL even if you did they eat you alive and then you will find out how to play football if you get off your ego trip
I wish people would lay off Jimmy. Is he the best qb..no way. His he over rated hell yes, but he isn't the reason ND hasn't done good this year. Ok yeah he sucked the last 2years, but ND's Defense is a joke. When the defense is giving up points, the offence has to throw the ball which makes the opposing d's job a lot easier. I'm not saying yall are wrong about Jimmy cause I think he is over rated, but the defense hasn't done s**t all year either.
i dont know exactly how clausen sucks..... i mean he has done everything in his power to get the team wins.. its the lousy defense thats bringing notre dame down .......156.5 efficiency rating completes 67.3% of passes has thrown for 3382 yards 23 tds 4 interceptions... so you tell me how do those numbers translate to it being clausens fault for notre dames demise..... he has done everything short of performing miracles week in and week out also has led 4 fourth qtr rallies to bring back nd from a certain defeat..... say what you want about jimmy clausen im not saying he is the best qb to ever play but he is certainly far from the worst and to say he sucked the last two yrs, id have to say that you must be smoking something cuz he has done his part for sure
No man, you have it wrong. It isn't that Clausen sucks so much as does the team. Notre Dame sucks. And big time too.
"We were very busy and did not notice anything. It did not happen in our establishment or on our property, if it happened at all."
Yeah, right!
Cover your ass, Mr, Bartender.
WHO CARES NOTRE DAME HAS SUCKED FOR 10-15 YEARS ,WEIS IS AN ASS ,THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING ON T.V. AT ALL
If you don't have anything nice to say about Notre Dame, then don't say anything at all.
I continue to be amazed at the decline in sportsmanship in America. I am an SC fan, first and foremost. I love my University and am loyal beyond measure through thick and thin. That said, I respect Notre Dame and its fine traditions. Charlie Weiss and Jimmy Clausen are real people; people with hopes and dreams. They have given their best shot at being the best at ND and came up a little short. So what? They wore the ND colors well and with pride. I'm sure few people are more disappointed over this season than they are. But still, they played the game, they played to win and they did their best. Can you ask more from any human being? At least they DID something other than sit around on their well padded rears, hide behind anonymous handles and throw rocks at people who deserve much, much better.
Respect Notre Shame? Get serious! I got sucker-punched by that little drunken dwarf dressed in green behind the Irish bench one year. THe best football game that I ever saw was when the Trojans scored 55 unanswered points against them. It was like great sex for me!
Fight On, yer Trojan pal, Ferrari Bubba
Very well said geraldr5.
Funny how when USC starts to suck, the fans start becoming humble, thoughtful and caring about life in general. When they're winning, USC fans are the biggest a$$holes in the country. Funny.
YOU COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER. THE GUY WHO PUNCHED HIM SHOULD BE ARRESTED AND JAILED. THERE ARE TOO MANY MONDAY NIGHT QUARTERBACKS IN THE WORK. THEY ALWAYS KNOW BETTER YET RARELY PUT IT ON THE LINE FOR OTHERSN TO CRITIZE.
Ah an' may the little peeples kick yor ribs in
as yew lay on the ground in a drunken stupor all of yew haters an' armchair quarterbacks wid no guts to take the field of battle..only praddle away wid yewr mindless drivil....
He's a Clausen - anyone who knows football knows he'll never make it in the Pro's just like the rest of his family!
Not a Notre Dame fan or a Jimmy Clausen fan. I notice that the fans are full of hatred for someone that they do not know. All I know is that the players that we do like usually have respect for their competition, because they realize that everyone at their level has made similar sacrifices. Support your team, get rid of the hatred.
By any impartial review, Jimmy Clausen cannot be blamed for any of Notre Dame's problems this season. In fact, because of Clausen and his outstanding receivers Notre Dame had a chance to win every game it has played this season. They are averaging about 35 points a game, but the defense has let them down time and time again. Forget his stats, which are excellent, he makes good reads and good decisions, and should be at least a serviceable pro quarterback.
The writer of this blog reports that Clausen was involved in a "fight" without having all the facts. A fight is when two people square off against each other. A sucker punch, if that is what happened, is something entirely different.
And the guy who said Notre Dame does not belong on TV at all does not get it. ND is the only school with a national TV contract because a lot of people watch hoping they will win and perhaps just as many watch hoping they will lose. Bottom line, people watch.
how funny
Let it go, Weiss couldn't do it. He belongs back in the pros.
Claussen was over rated but did the best he could.
Most of you are dumber than rocks. Clausen will be the first QB picked in the draft if he goes pro. And he will make more money before he takes his first snap than all you jealous pathetic losers put together. ND has some work cut out for them but Jimmy is is one of the most accurate QB's in years. He will do fine in the pros.
