On Nov.12, three University of Tennessee freshman, Nu'Keese Richardson, Mike Edwards, and Janzen Jackson-- were arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery. Last week, Lane Kiffin dismissed Richardson and Edwards, the two men who approached the vehicle and demanded money, from the football team. Now, charges against Jackson and the woman driving the 2010 Toyota Prius, Marie Montmarquet, have both had their attempted armed robbery charges dropped.
"The investigation and careful review of all relevant evidence failed to show ... Ms. Montmarquet or Mr. Jackson had prior knowledge that the attempted robbery was going to take place and were unaware something had occurred until after they pulled out of the Pilot store," according to the DA's statement.
"Therefore, there is an insufficient legal basis to continue a prosecution against them.
"Both Ms. Montmarquet and Mr. Jackson cooperated with the Knoxville Police Department from the time they were pulled over and voluntarily responded to police questioning. Their statements assisted the investigation and were consistent with the other evidence developed."
Lane Kiffin has yet to announce whether Jackson will be permitted to play in Tennessee's final regular-season game at Kentucky Saturday. The 6-5 Vols will be looking for their 25th consecutive victory in a row over the Wildcats.
In the meantime, Jackson, a five-star recruit who Kiffin believed was on his way to being named a first-team freshman All American, remains barred from all team activities. Since Jackson's removal from the lineup, the Tennessee defense, beset with injuries, has played its three worst games of the season in succession.
So Kiffin has a decision. Is a two-game suspension for being arrested and charged with a crime the district attorney now says he didn't commit, sufficient punishment for putting himself into a situation that leads to an arrest? Or does he deserve further punishment?
In the meantime, one things remains certain, Janzen Jackson remains guilty of riding around in a 2010 Toyota Prius with a fat girl.
A crime for which, no matter how great the defense attorney, there is no defense.

I agree with your final comment here. which is more disturbing, that three highly recruited football players would try to rob someone at the highest traffic gas station in town or that they were riding around with a fat chick in a 2010 prius. Was there no attractive girls that were willing to drive the getaway car? They are university of tennessee football players after all. you would think they could get a hot girl and a better car than that. Nothing says gangster like a fat chick and a prius.
And certainly there is nothing more damning to say about the young lady than that she was overweight.
Just another Tennessee, screw up...face it, when they removed a class guy and inserted a cry baby you had to expect something coming....that coach is a stain on the excellence in coaching in the SEC...maybe that's why the Raiders removed him as they ran out of diapers....Monte Kiffin is a great coach and wonderful person...sorry to hear this "coach" was his seed...maybe if he spent more time coaching and mentoring his players instead of making up stuff on other teams, they could have done better? Tennessee has always been a class act..but now...well nuff said.
