Twenty-year-old Corey Zickefoose was the victim of an alleged crime Thursday when three Tennessee football players were arrested on charges of armed robbery. Nu'Keese Richardson, Janzen Jackson and Michael Edwards allegedly held up Zickefoose with an air gun in what was later described as a "prank."Intentions aside (as they do pave the road to hell), one would think Zickefoose would be in full-on lawyer mode, lining up a civil suit and pressing criminal charges. Or at least really angry. But no -- unbelievably, he's asking the university for leniency instead.
"I think they should still be able to play football, regardless," he said. "Tennessee is my place. It's my football team."Personally speaking, I went to high school in Tennessee, and while I won't claim to know more about the state than Zickefoose, I can't say I'm surprised at all. (And others agree.) This happened already once this year in SEC country with an Alabama man and his daughter (she was assaulted by Crimson Tide players and the father blamed ... her) and the fact that Zickefoose is willing to put football over his own personal safety is actually pretty indicative of how many people in that part of the country feel.
"Even after they put a gun in your face, you say let them play football?" 6 News asked.
"Yeah, it's Tennessee. That's the way it is sometimes," Zickefoose said.
I'm not saying that I agree with this mindset in the slightest -- or that Vols coach Lane Kiffin will either. Some sort of suspension coming from the school would seem to be almost guaranteed. But the fact that the victim doesn't want them punished certainly can't hurt the players' cases.

I feel for ya and I'm a Bengal's fan like no other and a convicted felon. I learned from my mistakes after the second round. When the Bengal's took back Henry it was bittersweet for me. While I love to see my team doing good, crime is crime. I don't remember how many times that moron was arrested that one year but I was done with him there.
unbelievable - Mr. Ziceafoose would be foolish enough to be making a statement like this and saying that it is ok to commit robbery if you play football at Tennessee. Being from Florida I am disgusted with these Florida players. If guilty - kick them out and let someone else who can appreciate what a privledge it is to play NCAA football for a school like Tennesse.

Not surprising, you would think from the past history that they recruit from juvenile detention centers. I live in Knoxville and the Big Orange is the number one here, but my blood doesn't run that way. It recently came out in court testimoney that Fulmer wanted to recruit a torturing rapist-murderer. Par for the course. What happened to building character in athletes and holding them responsible for their actions? What will they learn if this is swept aside? What if the victims had been armed with a real weapon and fired back? I think there would have been a very different response! No more double standards, teach these boys the right way to go to becoming responsible productive members of society. Crime doesn't pay.
