SOUTH BEND, Ind -- Sunshine and Flowers. Two words not normally associated with South Bend in November are primary elements in today's game between Navy and the Fighting Irish. Outside the weather is sublime--and unseasonal--as an Indian Summer sky looms overhead with temperatures in the mid-sixties. This is the kind of weather you'd hope to have in a bowl game much less the first week of November in the Midwest.Taking it all in from a front-row seat will be Arizona high school senior Marquis Flowers, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety/OLB type who is making an official visit. The Phoenix native is also considering USC, UCLA and Arizona's two Pac-10 schools, Arizona and Arizona State. Translation: he loves the weather at home (who wouldn't) but he might be willing to leave for the Irish. I am done forseeing the importance of weather on a visit after the Manti Te'o signing, but certainly today's clement climate cannot hurt Notre Dame's chances.
The other big story--the biggest story, in fact--is the return of Michael Floyd. On a day that was made for 7-on-7 drills, Irish quarterback has to be thrilled to have both Floyd and Golden Tate at his disposal. This will be interesting.
So buckle up, everyone. Enjoy the game and if you feel inclined while reclined, join me on the tweets.

This is classic Weis. We're driving down the field, Clausen is 7-7...let's run the wildcat and kill the drive since the wildcat is probably the only formation Navy can stop against us.

Weis' second mistake is putting Hughes back in the run the ball once we had first and goal. Maybe Hughes is a better option on extreme short yardage situations, but nowhere else. Note his inability to cut upfield on 2nd and goal.

Other mistakes: Clausen's throws to Golden in the red zone. If you're hitting him on a screen, or quick out, or post or slant, let's do it. But if you're throwing jump balls, while I know Golden is an extremely talented playmaker, we have two guys out there who can get up higher.

It's possible that I don't understand the complexity of our defensive responsibilities depending on formation, etc. However, I'm surprised to see that there isn't any consistency regarding who's got the QB, and who's the pitch man. I see Manti taking the Q (who pitches to the HB who runs forever), or taking the pitch (while the Q turns it up). It might be Manti making mistakes, or it might be that he's the only defender capable of fulfilling his responsibilities.
Our tackling is shameful.

It's always a grand time for me when Notre Dame loses.
It became even sweeter today when that loss was to NAVY.
NAVY- a service academy.
Gee, Notre Dame really does stink !!!

Perry you must have one boring and pathetic life if it takes a college football team losing to make your life happy. I bet you watched every minute of that game. Get a life loser.
This is a different Cameron than the one above.

This is too much for me.
Hand it to Navy, they didn't make mistakes. Notre Dame, on the contrary, should have won this game.
What pains me the most is the Weis issue. He frequently screws opportunities and doesn't give our players the best chance to win. Would another coach make better decisions and motivate the team better? Maybe. But then we see that off the field he develops quarterbacks and recruits well (at least on offense).
The calls for his head will no doubt resound after this. I don't want him fired, but I just wonder: maybe we should make him the highest paid quarterbacks coach in history?

Notre Dame has taken the identity of it's coach, arrogant without justification. No way that team should lose to Navy.

Say bye bye to Charlie. Not once during the game did he go over and talk to the defense. I see the other top coaches trying to fire the there teams up, but all Charlie does is talk to Clausen. Not what a head coach does. Know's nothing about coaching defense.

I used to think that Notre dame fans could write intelligently, but after reading some of your remarks, I'll have to rethink that. Notre Dame has a good offense and a poor defense. They;ve been able to rally from behind but usually only when their opponent makes a glaring mistake and turns the ball over. Maybe they should schedule Syracuse again, oh, wait, they lost to the Orange last year!

charlie has got to go; I bet we(ND) wind up 6& 6; and if we do, we should not go to a bowl game; we don't deserve it; We've become a very medicore football team and should be playing in the Ivy league; thats how low we've sunk; By the way I keep saying WE because i've been an ND fan since 1946; So I do know a little about the Irish. Big Mike from New Jersey.
