Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes committed one of the dirtiest plays of the year on Saturday when he tried to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey, and after video of eye poke was seen by hundreds of thousands of people on YouTube, Spikes was suspended for the first half of Florida's next game. But now Florida fans have struck back with a YouTube of their own that they say shows it was Georgia that made the game dirty.
The video, which has become one of the most viewed on YouTube over the last 24 hours, shows Georgia linebacker Nick Williams drilling Florida quarterback Tim Tebow away from the play after Tebow had handed off. According to some Florida fans, that play was the one that set Florida players off and set the tone for a game featuring cheap shots on both sides.
For his part, Tebow says he doesn't want to make an issue of it:
"That's something that you don't need to talk about," said. "People, they want to do whatever they can to get an edge and that's happened a lot in college football and it happens more than people think. "It's just something you deal with, and something I've dealt with for four years. It's not something that I feel like I need to talk about or converse about because it's not ... I love playing college football."I think Williams should have been flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play, but I also think what Spikes did is an order of magnitude worse than what Williams did. If Florida fans want to say there were dirty plays on both sides, that's fine. but no one should equate lowering a shoulder into an opponent with gouging an opponent's eyes.

So because Georgia started it, it's okay to gouge someone's eyes?!? Pathetic. Go cry somewhere else.
It's like they always say - the first guy never gets caught.
Spikes gets one half against Vandy...ooooh, now that's punishment. Get some balls Meyer. The university should overrule Meyer and make the punishment more severe, but they won't because they're just like Meyer - winning is all that matters.
so it's okay to play dirty, as long as you don't play "too" dirty? Let's be realistic... both teams (and most teams in the NCAA -- and the NFL, for that matter) play dirty. Why is this surprising to fans who say they genuinely like American Football?
Ealey himself has stated that he does not think that Spikes should be suspended. If the guy who is getting his eyes gouged can say that, then why don't you all just stfu.
winning must be important in your book because that is why you are whinning so much about this---because your team is not a winner !!! Down with the Gators !!! But that won't bring your team to # 1----!!! You are not concerned with what happened in the game ---only that you want to see the Gators lose ---plain and simple---so give it a rest, will you
Give me a break Florida. You people are crazy myopic! Just accept that your team has been given a free pass this year and know that next year will be different. When the pimping is over the free ride stops.
if we have been given a free pass then why don't you just shut up and accept it---Go Gators !!!
Florida has always had very dirty defensive players...crowder, etc. A half game suspension against a very weak team isnt a penalty at all. Come'on Meyer
Wow....Meyer really put his foot into this one. Putting him down...FOR A WHOLE HALF AGAINST VANDY??????? My God....way to show your authority Cryer. If this had been LSU or 'Bama.....Coach Cryer would have really shown him.....and had him sit the bench when the gators had the ball!!! LOL
Sure, Football is a rough game. Hitting, tackling, and all that happeens on the field.
Purposely attempting to gouge out an opposing players eyes is tantamont to criminal assault and does not belong on any playing field.
Brandon Spikes in not a collge athlete. He is a criminal thug and should be dismissed from the UF team and kicked out of the university. A half game suspension is a ridiculous joke and diminishes Urban Meyer as the head of the program. Imagine a hoodlum accosting YOU on the street and gouging out your EYES, your most precious facility. NO DIFFERENCE and Mr. Spikes should be treated as such a criminal. A late hit on Tebow does NOT warrent such a criminal act, which can be viewed no other way.
Dont hate the player hate the game boys. Dont hate us because we are the defending champs and are going back to the National Championship game. Will show Texas how to play SEC football.
OK, NOT an excuse here, but really, does anyone actually think he was trying to gouge his eye out, rather than give him a good poke in the eye to reduce his vision that all good running backs need to follow blocks and know where to cut.....geeze! why don't we just say he was trying to put his finger right thru his skull for crying out loud and Williams just got a little carried away with a chest bump for a good hand-off by Tebow.
UM is a cry baby, bad coach to not take more action then this. If it was against one of his, would be calling for their head....well maybe not as look at what he did with Tim T....playing him no matter what. I hope that doesn't come back to hurt Tim T....in his future. Oh well UM got what he wanted....sorry to say.
Cheaters as always how do you think the gators won so may games because they were givin to them. Their time is running out.
But Momma he hit me first
retaliation gets caught, it gets punished. NOTHING else in the game matters. what Spikes did was intentionally try to injure another player - and something that could have been devastating - he had to "work" to try to gouge.
he should be punished accordingly. any other play in the game does NOT matter. if you want to bitch about the other cheap shots that weren't called - on BOTH sides - then complain about the
reffing. Spikes action was assault.
if Dez Bryant is suspended for an entire season for his "offense" then Spikes should be out of
football for years!
Florida fans may want to wait and see if they actually make it to the NC game. They have not proven to be unbeatable as is the case with everyone. Thus, they may be sitting at home watching it.
Also, Florida always cries when they are penalized for something. They are never wrong.
Spikes reprimand is joke and it just backs up the arrogance of Florida and Meyer. He may be a good coach, but, he is no man. Show your real courage and if you don't have enough to bench the balance of the season, at least suspend him for Vandy and So. Car. While insufficient, at least it would take some degree of courage.
you must be a SC fan---afraid to face the Gators ??
Florida players and fans are the biggest whiners and cry babies I have ever seen. I was at the Arkansas game, and thanks to the 13 players on the field in the fourth quarter, 11 plus 2 refs, they came back and beat Arkansas. I have watched most of Florida's games this year, and they are getting a blind eye from the Refs. Just look at how many penalties that have been called on Florida vs. every other team. There defensive backs were all over Arkansas recievers the whole game, not one call. Georgia game they were holding on offense half the time. Florida has a good team. Teebow is a great player, but Meyer must be worried about Vandy for him to only suspend spikes for half of a game. Arkansas and LSU beat Florida on the field, and the Florida fans and media, act like they had a bad day and Arkansas was just there. Arkansas sacked Tebow 6 times, Caused the fumbles (media and fans acted like they just tossed the ball on the ground and Ark. jumped on them), and were ahead at half time utile the SEC called the refs at halftime and had them put their blinders on. Florida will get beat, either by LSU this weekend or by Alabama in the SEC Championship.
Im not a florida fan but to say lsu bet florida on the field is just plain stupid lsu only scored 3 points you cant win a game win you only score three points. The call in the ark. game was terrible everyone knows that the crew got their punishemnt for it move on you cant change that but to say ref's turn a blind eye to anyone is stupid. They are human they might miss or blow a call but it doesnt just happen for Florida it happens against and for every team that plays the game and o by the way Florida has already played LSU DUMB@#$
first the suppension is not all the punishment SPIKES recieved .Any way don't all of you think it is very odd that you haven't heard the other player say one thing about the incedent. I for one do NOT think it was right for SPIKES to do that even in retaliation . But this kind of thing goes on in football and we just don't see it . There has been much worse things than eye gouging going on like some players have even said that they would do anything to knock some of their opponents out of the game no matter what it takes. I even red yesterday one idiot wrote in that he would love for the GATORS to get the same fate as MARSHALL did a few years ago . So since none of us knows all the things that happen in the piles we should not condone but remember that that was just one thing among many
