Syracuse senior Mike Williams, the nation's sixth-leading receiver, has left the Syracuse football program, The Syracuse Post-Standard reported Monday.Syracuse coach Doug Marrone announced the departure during Monday's weekly news conference. Marrone said he did not know if Williams was still enrolled in school.
Williams came to Marrone's office Monday and informed him he was leaving the team immediately.
Williams had four catches for 34 yards in Saturday's 28-7 loss to Cincinnati.
Two weeks ago Williams was suspended a game and did not play against Akron. He missed the entire 2008 season after being accused of cheating on a test.
Williams was averaging 106.57 yards receiving per game, tops in the Big East and sixth nationally. For the season, he had 49 receptions for 746 yards and six touchdowns.
Syracuse is 3-5 overall, 0-3 in Big East play in Marrone's first season. The Orange visit No. 13 Pittsburgh Saturday.

the guy can hardly write his name . I live in Syracuse and the whole ateletics department is like that. As long as the can play who cares if they can read. Boeheim is the worst in this case, carrying players like Eric Devendorf, who slap female students and are basically street thugs being pushed thru the system because they can put a rubber ball thru a metal hoop. Just ask Derrick Coleman..........or strike up a conversation with Pearl Washington. You'll understand.

In stead of being jealous because they can shoot a basketball, catch a football or throw a baseball, maybe you need to up your game and stop hatin!!!! Besides I never hear anyone complain about hockey players getting a free ride or lacrosse players. Its always a football player or basketball player....hmmmm

Thank you for correcting both spelling underachievers. Want to play ball? Show REAL progress toward a degree within two years of arrival or lose the scholarship (that's why they call(ed) it a scholarship). Pay coaches for wins, then deduct based on graduation rates.

New coach, same old program. I went to Syracuse in its glory days when Coach Mac played for #1 in USA. Today its being run by a woman chancellor and a inept AD. Why take abuse from a bad team. Why would you use a basketball player to QB your team when hes done at end of year?
