Connecticut police have charged a man with the murder of Connecticut football player Jasper Howard. John William Lomax, 21, has been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit assault. His attorney insists Lomax was attempting to break up the fight. His bond was set at $2 million.
Police charged Hakim Muhammad, 20, with conspiracy to commit assault, and 21-year-old Jamal Todd with pulling the fire alarm, which reportedly began the fight.
None of the three men are listed as students or employees at the university, according to the school's Web site.
Howard, 20, was stabbed just after 12:30AM, Oct. 18, following a school-sanctioned dance on the Connecticut campus. He was airlifted to a Hartford hospital where he died later that morning.
Police arrested Johnny Hood on Oct. 21, but the 21-year-old was charged only with interfering with an officer and breach of the peace. Hood was not a part of Tuesday's indictments.
However, according to a Connecticut television station, Hood and Lomax are friends on Facebook.
The Huskies host Rutgers in their first home game since Howard's death Saturday at noon.

UConn went ahead and played their game...as has become the norm when someone gets shot or knifed to death..."that's what they would have wanted"...sure...here's to the day when a team commemorates the murder of one of their players by canceling the game and holding a weekend long prayer and meditation vigil on the behavior and it's effects of America's extreme way of violence.

It's sad that: 1) that a young man died; 2) UCONN lost a football player that they have been paying so well (the NCAA can kiss my butt); and 3) there is such violence on a college campus; but what the heck is going on?
Someone sets off a fire alarm and it turns into a deadly knife fight????
Sounds like too much alcohol and black testosterone to me.

To Matthew:
I sincerely appreciate your sentiments. Yes, a week of mourning would be very symbolic, but you seem to forget that, to these universities and their alumni, football is everything.
"Ah, so the kid is dead...., we can always buy another one."
So sad, but unfortunately, so true.
The idea of providing an education is secondary (or tertiary) to winning a football game. "Screw the kids and their futures; just hand them the GD ball. What the F is your problem?"
Big colleges, big egos, big money.
GO TEAM!

People, we need to have stronger knife control laws. This would not have happened if there had been a federal law against it. Ban knives except in the kitchan.
