Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford said Sunday that he plans to have season-ending shoulder surgery and enter next year's NFL Draft, bringing the college career of the reigning Heisman Trophy winner to a premature end.
Bradford, who might have been the No. 1 overall pick if he had entered this year's draft, suffered a shoulder injury in the season opener against BYU and aggravated the injury against Texas last week. He said he's ready to move on:
"I dreamed about coming to Oklahoma my whole life," Bradford said. "That's the reason I came back for this season. And I came back to play, not sit on the bench. That's the reason I tried to play after the injury. I'm very disappointed that it didn't work out differently.Bradford has another year of eligibility and could return to Oklahoma for the 2010 season, but it's past time for him to turn pro. He'll be in the NFL next year.
"Under these circumstances, and after talking to several people, this is the right thing for me to do at this point."
Bradford added that he intends to enter the NFL Draft if the recovery goes as anticipated. The rehabilitation time for the surgery is estimated at four-six months.
"I'll be up to the challenge," said Bradford.

Yea. BIG BO. I am a die hard Eagles fan. 'Skins tomorrow will have no chance against us and if bradford is on the team next year our d-line and linebacker corps will destroy!

Haha, look what oakland did to you guys last week. Baltimore Ravens forced you guys to bench your starting qb two years in a row, completely embarassing your entire franchise.

I commend a young man for returning to college to do what they are really there for, finish his education. To many take the money and run. My personal opinion is that anyone who leaves college early & they are on a scholarship, should pay the college back for the tuition. A person who may have really wanted an education may have been denied because of someone elses selfishness.

Might as well go pro now - and hope he goes to a pro team with a decent line so he doesn't get creamed like this his rookie season. Nobody's body can handle it for long.

This type of injury will last a lifetime, should never have came back this year after the injury, he would have missed this year and half of next year now he will miss this season and all of next season. He would not have made it in NFL with a good shoulder and the QB fom Tech was much better. Does haven't played under center ring a bell.

this guy will be the next ryan leaf..you can plug any average Qb into a good Big 12 offense and make them look good..anyone remember jason white of OU..won the heisman but where is he now...there will be no quailty Qb's in next years draft..even the beloved tebow..time 2 convert to a fullback this offseason timmy and maybe they will call your name in the 5th or 6th round

The better Landry Jones does, the more Bradfords stocks drops in the NFL. Like the Texas Tech QB's, Bradford looks like a product of the OU system. Bradford is way to slow on his feet for the NFL. My 10 year old could chase down Bradford. Bradford lost a ton of money by staying at OU.
