The University of Connecticut is mourning the loss of a football player. Cornerback Jasper Howard (shown above making a tackle in a 2008 game), a starter for the Huskies, was killed Sunday morning in a stabbing that took place on campus.
According to the Hartford Courant, Howard, 20, was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Huskies coach Randy Edsall was at the hospital overnight.
The newspaper says the assailant is still at large, and UConn students have been made aware of the incident.
In Saturday's 38-25 homecoming win over Louisville, Howard started, had a hand in 11 tackles and forced a fumble.

My thoughts and prayers to Jasper's family, sorry for your loss.
What a damn shame.....another bright future snuffed out by gutless cowards who need a weapon to settle the score.
I swear, kids today have no guts whatsoever. If they had to man up and fight one on one with their fists, hardly any of them would have the balls to say "boo" to someone else.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, and teammates.
this country is going to the dogs, all of you agnostic people see the future murder and mayham is getting worst
This article failed to mention his Girlfriend is pregnant with their first child. Sad. Truly sad. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He did nothing to deserve this. By all counts a good kid with a bright future.
Another tragedy in this culture where the knife and "nine" are the preferred tools of "conflict resolution".
I couldn't say it any more perfect. You hit the nail right on the head. Its sad
If you are heading out to a party and you have to stop and go back to the house because you forgot your knife or your gun, maybe you should stay home? This is a tragedy. But most of us don't attend parties where knives are a needed accessory.
Well! I must have read a different article. I thought I read that he and another student were at the dance and someone pulled the fire alarm. That's usually indicative of someone who resented the party and was looking for trouble. This young man was probably stabbed while confronting this hooligan. Wow! Some people just can't resist the hate speech.
Please get all your facts straight before you comment. This kid was going to a University sanctioned event ON the campus. It was not a "party where a knife was a needed accessory". He was doing the right thing. We don't yet know who did this or why.
Uh where did it say that he had a knife? It was probably a non-student that killed him. You don't have to be a student to attend an on campus party.
This was a school function. It wasn't like he went to a house party or club. This was UCONN'S school sponsored Homecoming dance.....He should have been safe there. All the kids should have.....It's just tragic.
I can't even image what his family is going through. You send your child away to college with dreams that he will have a better life. You would never expect that your child is never coming home......This is just horrible....
today's 'tough guys' are basically cowards...they need a knife or a gun, or a gang to feel courage instead of just knuckling up and getting on with it...
it takes no guts at all to stab someone, drive by and shoot them from your car, or get your gang to help you beat the crap out of someone...
if they were truly 'tough' they'd prove it mano a mano... barehanded...but these kids today have no balls...
Oh, give me a break. There's no honor to be found in initiating violence of any kind, whether you're using a knife or your bare hands.
This is so true...What happened to fist fighting? These "Wanta Be's or Gang leaders (by colors)~~~~are heading down the road to the "BIG HOUSE".
Drive by shootings have been around for decades. Look at the 20s when the white gangsters would routinely use automatic Thompsons to spray their rivals. And look at the cowardly night riders of the old south. And weapons at gang fights have been just as prevelant. The good old days weren't.
Your comments are full of false assumptions. You should write fiction because your mind seems to go off on a tangent that realy has no merrit in reality. Truth is you are more than likely basing all your thoughts on a racist belief but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just say you have a creative immagination.
