The first BCS standings of the college football season are out, and as everyone expected, they're topped by SEC rivals Florida and Alabama, with Texas coming in third. But there were some surprises after that.Boise State is the No. 4 team, meaning the Broncos haven't been hurt -- so far -- by their soft schedule. That's the highest opening position for a team from outside the six BCS conferences, and it gives the Broncos a sliver of hope that they could end up in the national championship game.
And in the big surprise of Week 8 of the college football season, Cincinnati is the No. 5 team in the BCS, with Iowa at No. 6 and USC all the way down at No. 7.
The big takeaway from all of this is that even if USC runs the table in the Pac-10, they're going to need a lot of help to get into the BCS title game. USC probably cost itself a shot at the national championship when it lost to Washington a month ago.

bcs standings are rigged,I like how they say "USC ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 7TH".BIG F.... DEAL. they sould be lower theres much better teams than them.
Your statement indicates your ignorance of the matter; USC lost to a good UW team with a former coach, most importantly, because their starting QB was out of the game due to injury. They have a quality team from top to bottom and to imply that the top 5 teams are much better than they are means that you haven't had a chance to see them play. I'm not from LA or affiliated with USC in any way, but since I live on the west coast and have seen them play and destroy teams like Cal at Berkeley, I'm convinced they could go head to head with any of the top teams. Once again, the Big 10 gets more credit than they deserve; Iowa is a good team, but they would be in over their heads against USC.
by the way i do agree with the first 6
the BCS should get 6 Cities that will agree to pick from the 12 best Teams in the Country to play in their Bowls and stop this nonsense about certain Conference winners automatically going to a certain Bowl. Pac 10 Champion always plays in Rose Bowl against Big 10. When was the last time the Pac 10 had to go up North to play the Big 10? Talk about home field advantage and ticket sales, LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. Last year we had a 3 game loser playing in the BCS Orange Bowl while a one loss Texas Tech did not go to a BCS Bowl because of Oklahoma and Texas being ahead of them in the final BCS rankings.
Florida # 1 ???????????? I can surmise it in two words, Tim Teblow!! Florida needs a last minute field goal to beat a Arakansas team Alabama beat by 28 points a few weeks ago.
Gerald, Florida, Arkansas, it's the SEC dude!!!! Maybe if Florida had squeeked by Miami, you might have an argument.
Hey now... Florida deserved to win that game - obviously they were able and willing to pay the refs a higher fee to ensure victory... The last few minutes of the game were bought and paid for by UF.
Alabama is number 1...the BCS should resign their BS. Florida has played 3 total ranked teams all year. Ana they can barely get by an unranked team. BSC get over yourself...I going to quit watching college footbal until there are true playoffs...not this paid off crap.
Ok ...just bring it to the SEC Title game ( if you make it there....The Gators will spank you like last yr
i'm tired of officials deciding the outcome of these games.2 pendilities that weren't against arkansas to give florida the tying touchdown.florida would have been going for a touchdown instead of a winning field goal.hope this happens to florida when they meet alabama.
get a new excuse, and that exactly what it is. Gators WON, End of Story
You must have watched a different game that I. The only penalty against Arkansas I disagreed with was the one where the Hog tackler made what the official thought was a taunting move with his arm. And Ark had the success they did due to the FL defense missing two key players.
it's simple, the bcs feels that Florida can put on a better show than Alabama. Whether Florida turns out to be a bunch of heroes or goats, the bcs officials will get the show they want. It's all about ratings people, not how good a team is.
I agree with you Railing. It's all about ratings and ticket sales. The BCS tries to get the 2 best money makers in the Championship game but sometimes the BCS screws itself when it has to deal with 3-4 undefeated Teams. Their plans blow up in their face if Teams like Alabama and Florida get upset. The other thing I REALLY hate is to have certain Conference winners automatically get a spot in one of the 6 BCS Bowls. To have the Pac 10 and Big 10 winners automatically go to the Rose Bowl is ridicules. Send the 12 best TEAMS in the Country to the 6 BCS Bowls. Sure you could end up with a number 13, 14,15,16 and even 17 rank Team crying that they belong in the top 12. By eliminating the automatic Conference winners we could see undefeated Teams or one lost Teams playing each other instead of seeing a 3 game loser playing in the Rose, Sugar, Feista or Orange.
You all seem to forget. 1,Teams are always gunning for the number one team. 2, Florida has won 16 in a row...nations best record. 3, The Arkansas that played yesterday could probably win against any team in top ten. 4, A 16 win team is always going to have a let down...they showed when that when everything is going wrong...they could still get it done. 5, A few less missed passes, one or two less fumbles....a rout! 6, Florida would win hands down against any team in the top ten right now, with Alabama being the only difficult game. 7, The whole world thought Bama was better last year...Gators blew them away.
7, Florida is the National Champs...should be there until somebody knocks them off.
No offense buddy but Florida is only up there cause they have the great Tim tebow he's the only one on Florida that actually cares. Everybody on Florida thinks that just because they won the championship last year they don't have to try untill Arkansas comes and plays better than them
Florida does not deserve #1. Arkansas played *terribly* yesterday -- at least the offense did -- AND they technically beat Florida. Florida "won" because, apparently, they're the ones paying the referees' salaries.
Who are thes folks voting for Cincy, Iowa, and Boise State over USC? Any team, any where. They'd all go down to Pete Carroll. And you know it! I think SC would beat Florida right now!
Gators keep winning, but their only big win was against a still questionnable LSU. Strugling against Ark. and Tennessee? Come on! UCLA beat Tenn.!
Who cares about the BSC rankings ? Fans should demand a 32 team playoff. There are enough bowl games that this can be done. Who cares about two 6-6 teams going against each other in the New Orleans Bowl, the Pappa Johns , Emerald City. Give us a true champion, and the NCAA would triple what they make on these poor bowl games.
Don't you think if they would make more money with a playoff than Bowl games they would have done it already????
