Teams from the Big East and Big 12 conferences will be headed to the Big Apple beginning in 2010 for the new Yankee Bowl. The leagues are near finalizing an agreement to play in the game for the new bowl cycle from 2010-13.
The Big 12's Board of Directors is expected to approve adding the Yankee Bowl to the Big 12's lineup for the next bowl cycle, Big 12 spokesman Bob Burda said.
"That's our intent," Burda told FanHouse. "All indications are we would add the Yankee Bowl to our lineup."
FanHouse first reported the story this morning.
The Big East would send its third or fourth selection to New York against likely the seventh selection from the Big 12. Yankee Stadium is expected to have a seating capacity of about 47,000 for the bowl game.
Burda said it hasn't been determined what specific selection the Yankee Bowl would get from the Big 12, but it "would be toward the bottom" of the Big 12's eligible teams.
The Big 12 has eight bowl affiliations in its current bowl lineup and is expected to maintain at least that many in the new cycle running from 2010-13.
The Meineke Car Care Bowl currently gets the third selection from the Big East. It's unknown if the Meineke Car Care Bowl would alternate its third spot with the Yankee Bowl, "share" the pick with the Yankee Bowl or slip to the fourth selection during the upcoming four-year period.
Besides the Yankee Bowl, the new stadium also has recently announced hosting several other future regular season college football games, including: Notre Dame-Army (2010), Army-Rutgers (2011), Army-Air Force (2012) and Army-Boston College (2014).

You mean people won't be lining up en masse to see a potential South Florida vs. K-State matchup?
What are the chances that YES gets broadcasting rights to this? They've been trying to expand their national prescense and this would certainly help.
