Miami's quarterback depth took a major hit Tuesday as two backup quarterbacks have decided to leave the program. Redshirt freshmen Taylor Cook and Cannon Smith announced their departures, effectively leaving the Hurricanes with just two scholarship quarterbacks.
This is on the heels of quarterback Robert Marve announcing he would transfer in January and the program replacing offensive coordinator Patrick Nix with Mark Whipple. Sophomore Jacory Harris remains the starter but true freshman A.J. Highsmith has been elevated to backup.
The Miami Herald ran an all's-well story on Cook Monday, only to report his departure the very next day. In it he said, 'my drive is insane. I'll be ready if my name is called because that's what a backup quarterback's job is to do -- be ready.'
Or not.
It appears he wants to play and soon, telling the Herald he's "going back home to play football" at a FBS school in Texas.
This is Randy Shannon's third year at Miami and while he's managed to put a vice on discipline issues and provide a socially responsible face for the program it sure looks like he's bungled the once formidable Hurricane offense chasing away quarterbacks and coordinators.

Once again, Shannon runs off 2 talented QBs in his effort to ensure an all black, all Miami Northwestern HS team...

What the Heck is going on with the CANES? I remember back in the day when NO BODY wanted o face Miami and now the "U" can't even keep decent QB's. Itt may be time for Randy Shannon to go. The Miami Hurricanes need to have that edge, that attitude which has been non-existant the past few years.
