North Carolina quarterback T.J. Yates was taken down last Wednesday not by 300-pound teammates but a game of Ultimate Frisbee. Yates managed to sprain his right thumb, an injury that will require six weeks of rehabilitation. Congrats on having the most stupid sports injury of the week, T.J.The game was actually part of an 'organized team activity'. With this coach Butch Davis has almost certainly nixed entertaining thoughts of further Frisbee-related gatherings. We suggest he kill any Nerf basketball thoughts as well, that's a killer. Underwater basket weaving's out. Perhaps even speed dating.
Yates was a part-time starter for North Carolina last year, playing in seven games and tossing 11 touchdowns. Not surprisingly, he has a bit of an injury history having fractured an ankle and undergone shoulder surgery. The boy's brittle, sadly.
Fortunately for him it appears he'll be healthy come fall ball and look to hold that starting quarterback job.

Obviously the author of this article has never played Ultimate Frisbee. It is just as legitimate of a sport as Football. It requires serious skill and athleticism and I can see why it could be used as an exercise to improve in other sports. In fact, the sport of Ultimate is becoming increasingly popular with men, women, and children all over the world from the high school and college level up to club and masters. Recently the organization Ultimate Peace brought Ultimate to the middle east in an effort to bring Palestinian and Israeli children together for peace: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0Bu7glt9yE

The football players who have tried to play in our Ultimate pickup game usually can't keep up and are begging for a sub after a point or two.

Fact: the UNC Ultimate team, "Darkside", is a much better Ultimate team than the UNC Football team is at Football. Yates may just be trying to have a winning experience!!?!
