Appearing at the Nike "Coach of the Year" clinic in Pennsylvania, Florida Gators football coach Urban Meyer delivered what was described as a "colorful" address," complete with lots of four-letter language. The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel report from the event included no less than three (bleep)s in its online edition. Maybe that's just the kind of coverage needed to perk up the newspaper industry.
Meyer was the featured speaker at the Nike "Coach of the Year" clinic coordinated by Liberty High assistant Jim Tkach. The leader of Gator Nation didn't disappoint with a colorful presentation complete with lots of uses of a four-letter word that begins with an "s" and ends in a "t." No wonder Meyer didn't want cameras in the room for his speech.Meyer used that strong language as he outlined an unusual set of core values for his program. No, we're not talking Vince Lombardi stuff here, about effort or competing or any of that nonsense. We're talking things like "no weapons." Really.
1. Honesty. 2. Always show women respect. 3. No drugs. 4. No stealing. 5. No weapons. The times they are a-changin'. Contrast that with Pete Carroll's "three rules" at USC.
One, protect the team. Two, no whining no complaining, no excuses. Three, be early.Whatever, Meyer's the defending champion and Carroll's left still having to explain losses to Oregon State, UCLA and Stanford in successive seasons.

Moron- I think that is covered under 1. Honesty or 4. No Stealing...hence that person was kicked off the team.

Oh, Great. Now if Florida is winning big in next year's UF/UT game, we'll have to sit through what's left of FL's timeouts in the final minute.

Urban's a stand-up guy. You rarely hear him curse and he's a religious family man , but is it really that damning to say 'S**t' a few times to a bunch of 18 year olds?
And it's a sad but true fact that you can't be a top level program without recruiting some kids from bad neighborhoods. UF looks saintly compared to 'Bama, FSU, Penn St, or Miami.
Oh, and yes, UF will beat the tar out of Tenn this year, but he won't taunt like that. That was a one time thing for Georgia and they completely deserved it. Putting up a 40 point win will be enough to put Kiffin in his place.

I'm curious about your religious claim. What form of religion tolerates filthy language in private or especially a public place? I've always equatted the use of filthy language with lacking in intelligence and any so-called elite college coach that uses it should find another profession. This guy is supposed to be a leader of young men, not thugs.

What about going to class and earning a degree? Apparently, Urban could care less about their education. Can any of his recruits even read?

Meyer was speaking to COACHES, not players. He's a no-nonsense guy.
BTW, a friend who attended a coaching clinic got to have a private lunch with Meyer. He said Meyer told him his main goal was to get his players to accept Jesus Christ.

Saying someone is a religious family man and then talking about how he uses the word s**t all in the same sentence makes no sense. Sure you can be a great person and drop an inappropriate word here and there, but while appearing at the Nike "Coach of the Year" clinic... REALLY??!!! Sorry, that's not what I call a fantastic role model or a stand-up guy...
One would hope to think that being recruited, by a top level program would change someone, and they would respect the chance they are being given...unfortunetly that doesn't always happen. All programs have issues for sure, but the name caller pointing fingers at FSU and PSU...let's see if "saintly" Urban stick's around for as long as Joe Pa and Bobby, and then see what "his" program has gone through.

Greg...check out UF and WHAT grades those kids get..it's one of the TOP schools and the country and VERY hard to get into...their GPA's are good or,they don't get it! Do some checking on their recruits, we're not the school in trouble for cheating!

A college coach using profanity?!?!?! Stop the presses! I'm not a Florida fan, but who cares if he cusses. If we got rid of all the coaches that used curse words there would be very few coaches left. To all you hollier than thou posters I say you go listen to your teams coach speak when no cameras are around before you bash another coach for doing something your coach does. Beyond that, get a life.
