Just over a month past college football's official signing day one of the last major uncommitted college football recruits, Florida tight end Orson Charles has signed with Georgia among a host of suitors. The Tampa Plant High School product -- same school as collegiate superstar turned NFL flameout Mike Williams -- picked the Bulldogs over USC and Tennessee after having also visited Florida and Florida State. He's also the answer to a trivia question. You might remember him as the person who accidentally destroyed Florida's 2006 BCS Championship crystal football on a recruiting visit. Fortunately it was insured and eventually replaced. Unfortunately for Florida guilt over his goof wasn't enough to secure his services.
Charles' signing ensures the 'Dawgs add a versatile and athletic tight end to the fold for whoever emerges as its quarterback next year and beyond. Charles' high school quarterback, Aaron Murray, also signed with Georgia but the favorite right now appears to be senior Joe Cox.
Whatever, his crystal football smashing incident has him high in Athenian hearts. A sampling of comments:
Welcome Charles! You've been a legendary Dawg since the moment you smashed UF's glass.Over five minutes of hilites below.
Anyone who breaks Urban Meyer's trophy then publicly rejects Florida, Tennessee, and USC in favor of Georgia is instantly a DGD [Damn Good Dog - Ed.] in my book.
By our count, that leaves dubiously represented back Bryce Brown the last uncommitted football recruit after itinerant back David Oku inked with Tennessee Thursday.
