Rich Rodriguez and the Michigan football team had a tough year. They didn't go bowling, they had their first losing season in like 40 years, the starting quarterback is transferring and, well, you get the point: not a fun year to be a Wolverine fan.Of course, Ohio State and the kind folks in Columbus are always there to rub a little salt in the wound. And they teamed up with Maker's Mark whiskey to do so, posting a hilarious monstrosity of a billboard on a downtown building. (Big photo after the jump.)

Especially Michigan's.
Um, so, yeah, that's funny as all get out. The only thing, though, that I wonder about is: did Maker's Mark consider exactly how many Michigan fans drink their brand of whiskey? Because, as hysterical as the ad is, it is most certainly alienating a group of large group of fans who probably like to drink whiskey.
On the bright side, they're locking themselves into bourbon of choice for the Buckeye market.

I'll buy me a fifth this weekend cuz I'm a Buckeye fan.But in all seriousness,I still have a lot of respect for that team up north.Our rivalry has been the greatest in all of sports history.
i'm looking out my hotel window at the billboard now, and at first really thought maker's did a good job of letting the ad be taken how you want. now i certainly agree this ad could anger some michigan fans, but it's in the capital of ohio, and i'm sure maker's would do something similar if michigan were up and OSU were down. I like the ad, it's about time some advertiser's got more edgy.
you people at makers mark are the real losers--i own 12 liquor stores in michigan that will NOT be buying your products as of today.
i would strongly rethink your advertising strategy.

I called Makers Mark and they said they did just to weed out douchebags like Barrysoxs from being able to sell their products.

Dr Huxtable, I assure you the average Michigan grad earns more than the average OSU grad...you can chirp for now about football but you'll NEVER be able to chirp about having a superior academic school. Consult any ranking/ratings you find and you'll see UM is miles ahead. The vast majority of OSU students could not get in to UM...that's the facts Doc (though I doubt you are a doctor).
Seriously UM fans who are getting all worked up. Relax! It is all in fun!!! These things are part of the fun of being involved in the greatest rivalry in sports! These things are what make it great!
