Minnesota linebacker Sam Maresh has not had many things go his way ever since he decided to play football at Minnesota in 2007. Before Maresh was ever able to step foot on a football field as a Gopher he found out he was going to have to undergo open heart surgery, a procedure doctors told him would end his career before it started.Maresh didn't listen, and after recovering from the surgery he was on pace to play for the Gophers this year when he was knocked down yet again by a tumor found in his left calf. Well, Sam underwent a biopsy on the tumor over the weekend and he finally got some good news on Monday morning. It's not cancerous. Hell, it's not even a tumor.
Gophers recruit Sam Maresh and his family received some good news over the weekend with the results of the biopsy of the tumor in his left calf. According to a post on the family's CaringBridge web site, it was "a dense tissue of no significance ...scar tissue," according to Sam's father Bill. "What great news. Thanks to all the prayers and faith, things are working out very well again. I called Sam as soon as I hung up and he was very happy. we will be talking with the doctors to discuss how they will remove it."This is great news for Maresh and his family, and I'm sure they're all quite relieved to find out the news. Still, this doesn't mean Maresh's football career is out of the woods just yet. He's still going to need surgery on his calf to remove the scar tissue, and who knows how much longer that will keep him off the field.
Of course, given the way this kid has taken on everything else, I wouldn't be surprised to see him suiting up this fall.

It's not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up! Good luck, Sam!
