Michigan quarterback Steven Threet, a redshirt freshman who started eight games in 2008, has announced that he's transferring, dealing a significant setback to Rich Rodriguez's program.Threet's statement didn't say much, other than he's on the way out.
He told the Detroit News:
"I've decided to transfer from the University of Michigan. I have requested and received my release. I do not yet know where I will continue my collegiate career and will have no further comment until that decision is made."Threet wasn't a great fit for Rodriguez's offense. He completed just 102 of 200 passes for 1,105 yards, with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions last season, and he ran for only 201 net yards. He might not have been the starter in 2009, as he was expected to compete for the starting job with junior Nick Sheridan (who started the four games Threet didn't) and true freshmen Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson.
But it's still never a good thing for a team to lose its most experienced quarterback. Rodriguez has to hope Forcier or Robinson can play, and play now.

Please be more short-sighted. RR came in and had to run his system with few recruits to match it. He's pulled in two top-15 recruiting classes in two years. Everyone without an axe to grind or a whit of sense knows that good change doesn't come overnight, and that RR will make Michigan modern and highly relevant. Quick, how many 10-win season did WVU have following RR's bad first season at the school?

Dude....it's not like he came into a team with crap for talent. He took a perenial top 10 talent team and flushed it. The only thing that sucks now is that we Ohio people have to drive though that P.O.S state to the north every other year for a game that is less exciting then our scarlet and grey game. ..!.. ..!.. Michigan

Are you willfully ignorant or does it come naturally? A perennial top ten team that happened to have no O-line, no QB, and no linebackers, almost no returning starting offense. No one's arguing that UM has played super well against aOSU, but RR did not walk into a star studded team and destroy it.
In response to the "Threetless = winless" post below, Michigan has two highly-rated dual-threat QBs coming in in Denard Robinson and Tate Forcier, this classes most accurate passing dual-threat. Unlike Threet, they won't be a square peg in a round hole in RR's offense. If we could win three games with Threet and (shudder) Nick Sheridan playing QB, it's hard to imagine losing more games with a ton of returning offensive talent and more talented (if less experienced) QBs.
There are growing pains, but aOSU is a case study in the failures of the dinosaur offense in the modern college game. I'll take the pains of the rough transition to modernizing now over the slow fade of a dying system.

I'm sure the Buckeyes are more than happy to keep "fading" their way into BCS bowl games. At least their embarassments came at the hands of the national champions in the championship game, and not to some team from the minor leagues. And what was that about Michigan playing "super well" against OSU? I wouldn't be bragging about 1-7.

Jesus Christ. I specifically said "No one's arguing that UM has played super well against aOSU". Way to read.
Way to read. Just keep believing what you want to believe. Michigan is taking its lumps and mondernizing now. aOSU hangs it's hat on making BCS games that it constantly loses because the Big 10 is outclassed by the SEC and the Pac10.
I'd rather be already on the road to competing seriously with other conferences than waxing nostalgic for a time when the Big 10 winner could actually compete in BCS bowls.

Speaking as an SC alum. Best part about this article is the typical OSU fans coming on and bashing the UM program. Even I know they didn't have the athletes to compete this year with RR system. Keep doubting them. I'm pretty sure if RR can put together 10 and 11 win seasons at West Virginia he's gonna be able to put them together at Michigan. Can't wait to see this UM team when it is all Rodriguez guys. Maybe the Rose Bowl will actually be a tightly contested game. Who know we may even lose one.

Well said. If michigan can beat a #9 (but overrated) wisconsin team, then how do those ohio state fans except michigan will do just as bad with forcier and robinson and those other 5 top 150 players? answer: because they don't think things through and just believe what they want to believe.

Geez, Skapanza, don't get your maize-n-blue panties in a twist! What's a rivalry without some harmless badgering? All you had to do was stand your ground and harp about the Cooper era--no need to freak out and start using God's name in vain. I'm well aware that Michigan has an outstanding history, both against OSU and the rest of the league, and all Buckeyes want Rodriguez to right the ship and make this rivalry a battle again. They'll be a monster again, probably sooner than later. Chill out.

Enjoy the journey Michigan fans. RR will put together a winner for you, maybe not a BCS national champ, but a BCS bowl winner. When that happens, he is GONE to the NFL. The is about the journey and $$$MONEY$$$ for RichRod. If he could leave his home state and his alma mater, he will leave you. Get over yourselves. You are just a stepping stone as well. If you believe anything else, I have some prime real estate in Detroit for sale and if you're interested, I can put you in touch with the proper people.
