Steven Threet Leaving Michigan

Michigan quarterback Steven Threet, a redshirt freshman who started eight games in 2008, has announced that he's transferring, dealing a significant setback to Rich Rodriguez's program.

Threet's statement didn't say much, other than he's on the way out.

He told the Detroit News:
"I've decided to transfer from the University of Michigan. I have requested and received my release. I do not yet know where I will continue my collegiate career and will have no further comment until that decision is made."
Threet wasn't a great fit for Rodriguez's offense. He completed just 102 of 200 passes for 1,105 yards, with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions last season, and he ran for only 201 net yards. He might not have been the starter in 2009, as he was expected to compete for the starting job with junior Nick Sheridan (who started the four games Threet didn't) and true freshmen Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson.

But it's still never a good thing for a team to lose its most experienced quarterback. Rodriguez has to hope Forcier or Robinson can play, and play now.
