The best route for Kiffin was likely a quick and humble apology. That's exactly what he did apparently after a little pressure from the SEC.
"I've been made aware by the Southeastern Conference that my comments this morning at a breakfast with our donors violated a conference policy. In my enthusiasm for our recruiting class, I made some statements that were meant solely to excite those at the breakfast.
"I apologize to Commissioner Mike Slive and the SEC, including Florida AD Jeremy Foley and coach Urban Meyer. My comments were not intended to offend anyone at the University of Florida."
But, hey, at least Kiffin's getting off on the right foot, huh? As Matt Hinton noted, this situation could actually have been more embarrassing for Kiffin had he stood by his stance and demanded that the SEC and NCAA investigate a violation of a non-existent rule.Alas, he didn't. Which means now he just has to settle for trying to stop Meyer from scoring 240 points when Tennessee and Florida play Sept. 19.

Soon you will all know what Oakland Raider fans know about Kiffin...he can't coach a lick. I wonder how many 74 yard field goal attempts might he try in the upcoming season.
I still can't get over the fact that UT fired Fullmer to get this guy!

Rocky Top you'll always be second in the SEC (if you're lucky). You see what happened to Georgia after they ticked off Florida. UT and Kiffin your next! Only UT would hire another loser..Kiffin!
Go Gators!

Urban and the Gators try to run the score up regardless. So why worry about upsetting them?
Besides, Kiflin's comments were made at a alumuni and donar breakfast. And his comments have been blow out of context. Besides, what do you expect him to say to donars and alumuni about Florida?

Yes, and Gator Nation thanks Ole Miss for forcing us to replace our complacency with tenacity.
Ultimately, this is the only score that matters: Florida 24, Oklahoma 14
Until we meet again...

This will be old news by sept 19th and kiffin can coach a close game....but winning them isn't always a sure bet with him. Gators might take it but I doubt as bad as you guys want to believe.

Sounds like he's telling his players it's ok to lie if it's going to get you what you want. Great role model.

Since it’s not against NCAA rules (although highly unethical) to contact a prospect while he’s visiting another school, I hope that every Vol fan will seek out the cell phone numbers of all of Florida’s future recruits – their numbers are probably available with just a little Googling – and while they’re on their official visits to Gaines-burg, we can all call those numbers repeatedly during their entire visit. Hey, if Urban can do it, why can’t the rest of us? I’ll bet even Lane could do it and not get in trouble, since the SEC commissioner himself has endorsed the unethical procedure and clarified the rules for us. (Buford Pusser to the corrupt judge in ‘Walking Tall:’ “The only thing you have to worry about the law is how much of it I can use against you…”)

Unethical? NO .... any recruit can be contacted during the 'contact period' ... get ur facts straight. SEC has ruled on this 'no ethical violation' .....

Wait till Tebow leaves Florida and we'll see how good a Coach Meyers is. If I was him I wouldn't say my dream job is coaching Notre Dame, while you are coaching another school. I'm glad he's not coaching my team. Him or Spurrier.
