I know Tim Tebow is fantastic and everyone loves him, yada yada yada, but it does seem that Captain America has a small problem with sharing the spotlight. At the football rally after the Gators won the National Championship, Tebow made the hilarious annoucement that he'd come back for one more year, walking off the stage with microphone in hand before zinging the crowd. Gotcha!
Now, at a Gators basketball game on Saturday night, Tebow got everyone again, taking off his sling as he announced his non-throwing arm would be ready for next season. It's January, just in case you forgot.
Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, ripped off his sling at the end of a brief speech at halftime of the Arkansas-Florida basketball game in an effort to assure Gators fans he would be fine following surgery on his non-throwing shoulder.
"Don't worry about this. I'll be fine," Tebow said as he pulled off the sling.
I have no idea why this bothers me but it does. For some reason the whole Tebow Phenomenon never stuck with me, and these are the things that keep my dislike churning. He isn't a bad kid, he's a good collegiate football player and he seems to want to help more than most athletes combined.
It is announcing things like this, in the fashion he went about doing so, that kills me. I guarantee Myron Rolle wouldn't do anything like this. Maybe he just enjoys stepping aside so others can get theirs, or maybe the guy is just too busy studying.

Have you ever considered that he's just a college student having fun with his classmates? Why try to read so much into it? Let him have some fun with other students in the gym at own his college.

Yes...he is a nice young man. A young man...just how old are you and how many individuals look up to you? Or did you miss all he has accomplished in giving his time to help others most of his life. Forget about his ability to lead and inspire others to go the extra distance to gain a place in history.
Or maybe you just did not agree with him say that Jesus Christ was his Lord. Or maybe...I guess you could not find junk to write about so now you pick on individuals who set a solid example for all. NO drugs, NO booze, No wild parties with the ladies, NO foul mouth, NO DUI's, NO police record. Gee what I'm I to write about to keep my job?

I'VE BEEN A HUGE NCAA FOOTBALL FAN, BUT ABOVE ALL A GATOR FAN. I LOVE THE GATORS, ALWAYS HAVE. I TRULY ADMIRE TIM TEBOW FOR THE WHOLESOME YOUNG MAN HE IS. NOT AFRAID TO SHOW HIS LOVE FOR JESUS CHRIST AND LEADING A CHRISTIAN LIFE ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD. COME ON PEOPLE, YOU CAN'T HONESTLY SAY YOU WOULD'T WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO BE MORE LIKE TIM TEBOW. JUST ANOTHER REASON THAT IT'S GREAT TO BE A GATOR!!

Ronnie..your right..he's a showboat..he cruised
all over the tide..he was recruited by Alabama but, he decided he wanted to be a Gator. I wonder how you would feel if he was on your team? He is a truely good guy, his fans love him,
he "pumps the crowd" because we love it and he knows it! I hope his time does come...an undefeated season, another Heisman and 3 National
Championships. He's a TRUE role model and it's to bad there's not more like him! I'm proud to be a Florida Gator!!

Seriously, how jealous are you? I suppose he should stand around mute? Do you think that he ASKS to speak to the crowds? If he wears the sling or sits in his room, would that satisfy you? Instead of those options, he is at a basketball game supporting his fellow athletes and school. He is reassuring the masses about he fitness which could translate into a high preseason ranking (something that is necessary to ever beat out USC!). To you and any SAD Alabama fans, get over it and get on with it. All the hating and the smack talk seems like reflection of jealousy and anger. Instead of the negativity, enjoy the unusual sight of an athlete in the spotlight who doesn't party like a rock star! Oh, and for the record, I am NOT a member of the Gator Nation.

hahahahahahaha--I just think it's hilarious (or is that pathetic?) how so many sports people get riled up when a genuinely good, wholesome kid makes it big. No, Tebow's NOT perfect, and would never claim to be. Personally, I'm not even a fan of him as a player (I do respect his skills, though), but for crying out loud, how long must we be subjected to these sorts of non-stories? There actually ARE people out there that do good deeds simply because they WANT to do good deeds, without ever wanting any reward or attention for them. Tim Tebow IS basically still a kid, and these things you speak of are what you get when you put a goodhearted, well-meaning KID with a flair for the theatrical in front of a big crowd--I'll bet he was actually UNcomfortable there, and was just trying to be silly to take the edge off. I wish everyone would just back off and let his career unfold--I'll bet you'd be mighty proud if he was YOUR kid!

Hey, Shane Bacon (and anyone who agrees with him), Great article!! I figured out why the whole Tim Tebow phenomenon "hasn't stuck with you." I've taught school for 25 years and I am a pretty good judge of character. You sound like one of those guys who would dislike that one student in class who does all of his work, doesn't run his mouth unnecessarily and excels mainly by hard work-- the curve killer. Yep, a classic case of petty, infantile jealousy-- a behavior exhibited all too commonly by spoiled, academically inadequate, lazy brats.
