Thom Brennaman didn't make any friends Thursday night with his call of the BCS, unless you count Tim Tebow, who he repeatedly slobbered over, handing out ridiculous compliment after ridiculous compliment to the Florida quarterback. (It was so bad that our Chris Burke even -- accurately -- likened it to having a crush on a girl in high school.)
The result of this man-love was an unsurprisingly critical reaction from the interwebbings. But whenever a public person cheeses off the Googles, the blogs and "normal" sites aren't the only ones who make said person pay. Because there's always the old standby "Wikipedia edit."
Which, as you can see above, is exactly what Brennaman got handed (via Awful Announcing, red line mine). Now, please be aware that "On January 9th [Brennaman] openly professed his love for Tim Tebow on national tv and asked how he could get a seat on the Tebowner" no longer exists on Wiki. But it was there. And it was/is hysterical.

I think Tom Brennamen is a very good announcer. His voice is very clear and strong and he adds a bit of excitement with his play calling. I also believe that Fox Sports believe that he is very good announcer also. Fox could put a lot of people in that spot but they chose Tom.
As far as his comments about Tebow, his comments are about honoring a major sports figure whose life is just moralisticly unbelievable. This accomplishment in life weighs in far above any accomplishments on the field to which Tim does about as good as anyone at his level. I have no idea why commending an athelete that has acheived so much with his young life should bother anyone unless there is a jealousy issue there. In this day and age when we see so many of our atheletic lookuptos and wannabes live there lives in public the poor way they do, I think it would be refreshing for a man like Tebow to honor God and his teammates and family with his accomplishments on and off the field. Tom Brennaman was just emphisizing this point very dramaticly , because it is so rare this day and age to witness someone with Tebows character.
And by the way, I agree Tebow would have a problem in the NFL. His best quality is that he is a leader of team play. But as it is, there is normaly little or no team play at that level and he can't become star without a team. He isn't cut out for a me , myself and I role like so many of the so-called stars in professional sports. But I can tell you one thing ,if Vince Lombardi was alive and still a coach, Tebow would be his first round pick.

If i had not met Tim Tebow and followed his career, I may feel like some after Thom's gushing. Tim Tebow is an unbelievable person and although his NFL career may not be that great, if you meet him and talk with him and see how he treats people, it might very well change your life -- as Thom said during the game. He's my favorite athlete of all time and I'm 50.

I think Tom did an excellent job of announcing the game. I would rather listen to him than ABC's Brent Mussberger anyday. Mussberger is always bias for one team, he can't show impartiality at all. I usually mute the tv when he is announcing so that I can enjoy the game.

It amazes me how you guys can get on this man's case for extolling Tebow and yet I never hear any of this when announcer after announcer made a huge deal about how perfect USC was or how great Sam Bradford is.

Even I, a committed Gator, can admit that the commentators' gushing for Tebow is totally overboard. I love that kid too. And the legend is fun. But that is best left to the blogs. Commentators should call the game and be ware of letting their personal affections cloud their job.

I think the negative comments made against the 2 Fox announcers are hideous and reflect what this society has turned into. A society that loves all things dark, evil and sinister, and nothing that seems good and wholesome like the 50's shows that I wasn't around to see.
If we don't change as a culture and start praising positive role models, we are doomed.
I personally think if you watch more than 3 hours of tv, or ESPN or FOX sports anything , you will see a story repeated over and over for people who work 8 hours a day or do shift work and maybe missed the show the 1st few times it was on. I don't think anything was done overboard. They are just accentuating the positive. Let's all grow up and feel good in our own skin and stop feeling jealous of people who deserve all the praise in the world.
Let's stop gloryfying CEO's that make 10,000 times the paycheck their employees make and treat them like slaves. Why aren't there blogs all over the internet about that ? If that's not the definition of going overboard I don't know what is, but we let that go on and on unchecked, why? Because it's negative and we love the super rich , super evil and manipulators of the world.
