Say this for the President-elect's support for a college football playoff: It's not about political expediency.
In comments that will delight the football fans of a small state whose electoral votes he has no chance of winning in 2012 while angering the football fans of a large state whose electoral votes will be up for grabs in 2012, Barack Obama today congratulated Florida for winning the 2009 BCS National Championship Game -- but then reminded everyone that Utah has a case for No. 1, too.
Obama said he sent a message of congratulations to a friend whose son plays for the Gators. But he then reiterated his long-held belief that the BCS is a lousy way to crown a national champion.
"If I'm Utah, or if I'm USC or if I'm Texas, I might still have some quibbles," Obama said. "That's why we need a playoff."
I couldn't agree more. I fully expect Obama to get right on fixing this, just as soon as he's got the economy straightened up.

PAN-DER-ING! Dude, you already got elected, there are far more important issues **cough**Isreal/Gaza**cough**Economy**cough** you should be focusing on.
Hey America, take note. This is the one thing, this dumb ass will get right in the next four years. You go Mr. Obama, make the most of this college playoff thing, because this is the only thing you'll be right about in your term!
Wow, we're in trouble, the man is suppose to lead the free world in less than two weeks, and he's worried about college football. Has America screwed up? We get rid of one a$$ hole and put an even bigger A$$ HOLE in office.
wow...you need therapy or anger management..so let me get this straight...he makes one small innocuous but correct statement about the need for a college football playoff and this sets you off and you want to crucify him...too funny!
he is a fan of college football for chrissakes...god forbid he should have any opinion on anything besides politics...instead of sitting on your ass whining about our nation's problems and praying that Obama fails, how about you go out and there and try to make the world a better place...
well i guess you are a OBAMA HATER..too bad for you..he can make whatever comment he wants about the stupid BCS SYSTEM..the only way to get a real champion is thru a playoff system..stop hating will you..FIGHT ON TROJANS
Unfortunately, neither of the two teams in the Orange Bowl game were at their best. Both teams hadn't played a game in almost 5 weeks, thus the ragged play they exhibited in the first half. None of the teams in the Fiesta, Rose, Sugar, and Orange Bowls were playing at the peak level they were at when the regular season because of the long delay that includes the holidays.
If the top 8 teams were in a playoff that starts right after the end of the regular season, then teams like Utah, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida would prove, on the field, who is really the #1 team. The national championship game would be played on New Years Day in one of the major bowl games. The other bowl games could host teams that lost in the first two rounds of the playoff. There's no comparison between proving rankings on the field versus proving rankings in the polls.
Why does everyone assume that an 8 team playoff would include the Top 8 teams? Based on how the NCAA works in most other sports, it would be the conference champions in the playoffs. Assuming they give each BCS conference an automatic bid and the non-BCS conferences one overall, that would leave just one extra spot for Texas, Texas Tech, Alabama, Ohio St, or other such teams. The howling about who was left out would be just the same.
Bacon and Jacks, you've just showed your true colors. Fear, mixed with hatred, ignorance and stupidity is not a good thing. Please settle down! IT IS WHAT IT IS!!!!!
First, Obama can have the Dept of Justice or whomever look into this mess. If there's some sort of anti-trust issue then they can fix it.....rightly so. Otherwise Obama needs to keep his hands off with so many other issues to deal with.
Those of you Bush-haters remember the Dems aren't exactly perfect. Note they (Congress) have the worst approval rating - EVER. Politics will never change - different man in office, same results. Obama is not a saviour and you Obama supporters best learn that quickly.
Lastly, a playoff will never happen anytime soon. Reason? We fans talk about this ALL YEAR LONG. We keep the spotlight and media coverage on this sport ALL YEAR LONG. Think quick....who won last year's basketball tourney??? Had to stop and think didn't you?? Nobody gives a rats ass about b-ball once the tourney is over. You insitiute a playoff in football and the same thing will happen. College football continues to break all kinds of money and attendance records every year and shows no signs of slowing down. Playoff would/could end that - at least according to the powers-that-be.
The only way to get the system corrected is....
1) have more Utah's cry foul. The Univ. of Utah's top brass now sees the unfair system. More Utah's and more college presidents that experience this will then reject the BCS.
2) fans stop attending games. No ticket sales = an end to the ridiculous salaries, etc. Once the powers-that-be see attendance and memorabilia sales decline, they will realize a change is needed.
Yea, right......like any of that will happen.
Hear Ye Hear Ye all those who are thinking that a playoff will guarantee that the best two teams are in the
"College Super Bowl Game"
Arizona the number 4 seed is going to the NFL Super Bowl. Pittsburg and Baltimore are not the top seeds from that conferance yet one will be in the Super Bowl with Arizona..........
Playoffs do not get you the best two teams 100 percent of the time if ever. Yes the BCS is a mess but a playoff does not fix it!
Florida Gators going for 3 NC's in the last 4 years!
Go Gators!
If a playoff is such a terrible thing then why does all major sporting event end in a playoff?? Could it mean that all sports..NFL...MLB....NHL...NCAABB...WORLDCUP....ETC. have it all wrong?? I think the BCShit has it wrong...and anyone who likes the BCShit is a moron.
