Turkey Legs to Go is FanHouse's complete travel guide for all of the 2008-2009 college bowl games. Here, we cover the Alamo Bowl (San Antonio, Texas), which pits Northwestern against Missouri.Overview / Matchup: The Alamo is another example (like the PJ Bowl) of a lower end second tier bowl that lucked out with a pretty beasty matchup; Northwestern and Missouri both finished in the top 25 for the season. And while Northwestern might be a touch overmatched on offense (Chase Daniel is straight sick, son), Mizzou isn't known for stopping anyone. So, at the very least, you can expect a pretty explosive shootout. Which works well given the historical nature of the San Antonio venue.
Hotels: The Marriott Rivercenter is probably the finest hotel in San Antonio and is definitely the most recognizable. The hotel's imposing step-back design and 38-story towers dominate the San Antonio skyline. The Sheraton Gunter Hotel is slightly pricier than our usual midrange suggestion; nevertheless it's the best overall balancing luxury, with cost and stadium proximity. The Red Roof Inn Downtown offers meager accommodations, but more than makes up for it with rooms less than US$100 a night and a location just blocks from the stadium and Riverwalk.
Restaurants: Biga on the Banks is located at the far end of the Riverwalk away from the overwhelming crowds. Biga is known for serving high-quality food and is consistently named among the best restaurants in Texas. Carnivores should definitely try the venison. Cappy's is reasonably priced, but can get a little expensive depending on what you order. Try the Kobe beef burgers or crab cakes with chipotle chili sauce. Pico de Gallo is an affordable local favorite and should be first on your list if you're looking for top-of-the-line Tex-Mex. Try the fresh-squeezed limeade, roasted goat or seafood fajitas.
Nightlife: When it comes to nightlife (and eating out for that matter) your best bet is to head for the Riverwalk. The area is a bit of a tourist trap, but it's got great shops and lots of bars and restaurants. As for specific suggestions we recommend the Menger Bar and the Howl at the Moon Saloon. Menger Bar is one of the most storied watering holes in the United States. Teddy Roosevelt rounded up his rough riders here, Carrie Nation hacked a section of the bar to pieces with her infamous axe, and Dwight Eisenhower used to bring his wife Mamie when they were just young lovebirds. The Howl at the Moon Saloon is a dueling piano-bar where the performers take requests and the patrons are encouraged to sing along.

Strip Clubs: While Dallas is said to have much better-looking girls and Houston has exponentially higher mileage, do not sell San Antonio short. The girls are generally considered to be pretty, and grinding can be found with the right girl. The city may be best known for its special $5 tableside dances, sometimes given on a weeknight, in places such as All Stars and Tiffany's Cabaret. For the best chance for extras (although the dancers there are of the "lacking" type), go to the Wild Zebra. But for just the best-looking girls, the Palace Mens Club is considered the best in town.
