There was something distinctively anti-climatic about the BCS Selection Show in a year like this -- because Oklahoma throttled Missouri in the Big 12 championship game, and because Florida was able to hold off Alabama in the SEC championship, we more or less knew coming into the bowl selection day who would be playing in the BCS championship.
And ... you got it -- Oklahoma and Florida were named as the pair of teams that will compete for the BCS championship and nearly unalienable right to almost absolutely proclaim themselves the best team in the nation. But, all skepticism aside, it's worth noting that this will be a pretty spectacular game to watch, provided you enjoy seeing lots of offense.
Now, some people will question whether or not Oklahoma can actually stop Florida at all, and it's going to be tough; ever since the Gators lost to Ole Miss four weeks into the season, they've been on a total and utterly destructive tear of anyone in their path, with their closest game before the 31-20 win over Alabama being a 42-14 romp over Vanderbilt.
On the other hand, maybe Oklahoma doesn't need to stop Florida -- Bob Stoops' boys have just gone through a stretch, including a Big 12 championship whipping of Missouri, as they scored 60-plus points in five straight games (and barely missed a sixth when they lobbed 58 points on Kansas State before the streak started), thanks to Sam Bradford's strong play at quarterback.
But, defense does matter, and Florida has more of it. Oh yeah -- they also have Tim Tebow, who is just outside "mortal" in terms of everything he does. If I've got to take someone, and I suppose I do, I'll take the Gators, and while I wouldn't make them two-touchdown favorites or anything silly like that, I do think they'll end up winning big.

I have ties to both schools (got a MA at OU, grew up near Gainesville and am now working on a PhD here). I think UF will win the game comfortably. Both have unbelievable offenses and are capable of scoring at any time from anywhere on the field. UF's defense is better, and UF's special teams are better. OU under Stoops has long had special teams as a weakness. It has been one of UF's strengths under Meyer. Florida only has to stop the Sooners a couple of times to win, and I think they will.
UF 45 OU 28
(Though in the end, I'll have my choice of t-shirts to wear the day after the game either way)
Boomer Gators! :)

for a team that never gets any respect, no matter who they play, how they win, or how tough their strength of schedual is, we always come out fighting. OU deserves all the respect in the world! not to take anything away from the Gators, cause damn they are good, BUT look what OU has done and compare. i think OU will come out on top and send the Gators back to the swamp! GO OU! BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!!

Can some one tell me why a playoff works in College Basketball and College Baeball but then they say it won't work in College Football?

The biggest reason is the incredible amount of money that is invested in the bowl system. The other big reason is the wear and tear on a football team. An 8-team playoff is 3 extra games. That is a fourth of a season against the toughest opponents. There is a reason that football plays once a week and only has about 12 games a season. Anything more just makes the injuries worse.

Texas should be playing OU. A team that loses at home to a non ranked team UF should not be considered.

I am truly a Sooner born and a Sooner bred; I found myself living in Florida after my teenage years and often rooted for the Gators, unless they were playing the Noles. However, as much as you can take the girl out of the Sooner state, you can't take the Sooner out of the girl! OU has shown their strengths time and again...I will wear my crimson with pride and cheer on my guys as they bring Sooner Spirit to the BCS Championship and KICK FLORIDA'S ASS. Come on boys...momma needs some new gator boots!

This piece was obviously written by an SEC fan. OU will absoulutely blow Florida's doors off!! Bradford will definately take the Heisman Trophy, too.

All of the predictions of a Florida blowout remind me so much of 2000. For those who don't recall, that is the year that OU took on FSU and Weinke, FSU's Heisman quarterback. In 2000, the hype mongers all loved FSU, but in the end OU completely shut down the Seminoles offence and proved it was Oklahoma's quarterback that deserved the Heisman. Florida is a great team and they may well win this year, but the same can be said of the Sooners. To win, Florida has to bring both their best offence and their best defense.
