Leading up to today's big SEC championship game, most of the talk outside of Alabama was on Tim Tebow and that incredible Florida offensive attack. Well, the squad will be without their personal Reggie Bush today, as Percy Harvin is listed as doubtful, with head coach Urban Meyer chiming in with news that Harvin is "probably not going to play."That report came after ESPN's (look at all the Bristol love!) Kirk Herbstreit announced this morning that Harvin would most likely be out for today's game.
What does this mean for Florida?
Well, the Gators lose Tebow's favorite target in the air. Harvin leads the Gators with 35 receptions for 595 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He also hasn't been too shabby on the ground; Percy is the second leading rusher for the team, with 538 yards and nine end zone visits.
Along with all that, they lose their biggest explosive threat. Harvin can turn a bubble screen into a huge gain and a score and force defense to plan around his elusiveness. The Alabama coaching staff said earlier this week that they were planning two defensive schemes, one with Harvin in the lineup and one with him out. That is what he does to opposing teams.
The injury also puts even more pressure on freshman Chris Rainey, who leads the Gators in rushing and has been a huge addition to Tebow and company. In such a big game, one which decides who goes to the National Championship Game, that is a pretty tough task to ask for a first-year.
