What happened to Death Valley being a frightening place to play at night? Don't answer that, but acknowledge that these paper Tigers, with a ridiculous and excessive eight home games managed to drop three of them in 2008 following last year's national championship. After slaying the Florida dragon in The Swamp earlier this year, Ole Miss and Colonel Reb were still hungry in slaying the kitties from Louisiana in their home stadium to the tune of a 31-13 victory. Top of my head, LSU's 2004 and 2008 squads have probably been among the worst post-championship teams in the BCS era. There's no shame in a 7-4 record but it is curious following a title where a small army of excellent players returned.
The day belonged to Ole Miss, however.
Today's defeat is another mark on a slightly bloodied SEC this year. The Big 12 has run away with the "best conference in college football" mythical throne this year, and the disappointing play by LSU and Georgia among others, has contributed to the modest malaise.
At least we sort of saw this coming. LSU needed an epic comeback to outlast pesky Troy last weekend. That came several weeks after a disturbing 52-38 drubbing at the hands of Georgia two weeks after another drubbing by Florida, 51-21.
Hold that Tiger? Sure thing. Today's loss was enough to empty Tiger Stadium long before the final seconds ticked away. Ole Miss' defense was brutal, holding LSU to a mere 36 rush yards and 214 total yards. On the bright side, quarterback Jarrett Lee managed to avoid adding to his ridiculous seven interceptions returned for touchdown. He did, however, come dangerously close after an errant pass that would have been taken back was dropped. That prompted the arrival of freshman quarterback Jordan Jefferson who was equally ineffective.

look out SEC here come the REBELS. HODDY TODDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jordan came in due to an injury, of Lee. But thank God the fans didn't boo him when he was taken off the field like they had done a couple of plays before with his interecption.... And yes once again Death Valley began to empty...... shame on the LSU fans, you know Brian we all think our conferences are best, but I think in actuallity we all can go down at any given time this year, just look at Texas Tech right now in the 3rd quarter, (bring on the playoff systems)..
Give me a Break, Houston Nutt inherited this GOOD team, matter a fact there were higher expectations for this team then they have produced this year. Arkansas was right to get RID of him as he did a horrible job of coaching the last few years for the Razorbacks, left them in total disarray. Gus Malzohn at Arkansas now at Tulsa was responsible for the "wild formation" everybody is using, not Houston "conservative" Nutt.
sounds like you are a little jealous.... you also have no idea what you are talking about....... YOU have no idea what Houston Nutt has done for our team, our players and our school. He inherited player with potential but not one bit of self-esteem when it comes to playing ball. The University of Mssissippi and the players of this team thank the Razorbacks for giving us this coach whether he is important to you or not... As for us, we would like for you to just keep your non-sense to yourself...
I actually think Ole Miss is a bright spot for the SEC. In addition to owning strong victories over LSU and Florida, this team has been highly competitive in every game they've played. They lost to Bama by 4 and had beaten Wake Forest before a last second FG ended those hopes. This could very easily be a 9-2 or even 10-1 team right now -- they're one or two plays away from that.
I'd rank them among the SEC's top 5 teams. The record doesn't reflect how good they really are.
GO GATORS
I love LSU they r my favorite team the gators are # 2
Ole Miss needs to give Ed Oregeron credit for His recruiting talent, just like Myles last year was playing on Saban's talent, Nutt has Ed's recruits.... besides Ed being a South Louisiania man and at one time an LSU fan... hope he does well with the Saints, and will see if Ol"Miss is on the rise with Houston, hopefully it will just make the SEC as a whole look good, and that's what it is all about....... Oh I'm glad to see some loyal LSU fans 4 ever around in Baton Rouge, I was begining to think you all were running out of the stadium...............................
