NC State Humiliates UNC to Narrow the Field

The ACC is a flat, jumbled mess. The only certainty is that, with Georgia Tech's conference slate finished, any team in the ACC Coastal division that wants to play in the ACC Championship game needs five wins.

Before today, that qualifier had everyone but Duke in contention. Surely a ranked UNC team could handle NC State at home.

Not even close.

The game seemed close through the first 2 1/2 quarters. NC State held the lead, but it seemed completely tenuous. All it would take would be the Tar Heels just getting to competency on offense. Instead, just as UNC pulled to within 17-10, the Wolfpack rattled off 24 unanswered points.

NC State had a solid drive to extend the lead and then UNC imploded. The offense turned the ball over two more times to bring the total up to six. The defense completely hung their collective head and surrendered in the game. A 41-10 final beating.

NC State QB Russell Wilson just killed the Tar Heels. Passing for 279 yards and rushing for another 50. He threw 2 TDs and would have had more yards passing and TDs but for receivers that dropped at least 5 passes.

The Wolfpack has won two straight against UNC for the first time in ages. UNC had gone 11-3 against NC State prior to Tom O'Brien coming to Raleigh. UNC is finally eliminated from contention in the Coastal.
