Last night Barack Obama and wife Michelle sat down with Steve Kroft of "60 Minutes" to discuss all things presidential, especially the most talked about points like, you know, the economy, the war in Iraq and ... that stupid college football postseason!
Barack was asked a pretty simple question to finish up the interview: "As president of the United States, what can you do, what do you plan to do, about getting a college football playoff?"
Now, these questions are why I can never totally grasp the presidential race. Yeah, we are all interested in the serious issues that will form our country in the coming years, but I promise you that there are a few thousand die-hard college football fans that would end up voting just because Barack decided this was an important issue. (And with that said, he'd probably also lose some Big-10 and Pac-10 votes along the way.)
With his answer, Obama went with the eight-team format, which I'm a huge fan of. I think four isn't enough and six still leaves some teams on the outside looking in.
Here was Obama's best line: "I don't see any serious fan of college football who had disagreed with me on this, so I'm going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it's the right thing to do."
Finally, someone who gets it. While you're at it, sir, can you allow beer in certain sections of college stadiums? I promise that it would make the games more fun.

At least we know what his priorities are.
Um, serious fan of college football right here, thoroughly disagrees with him on this issue.

Why would any fan of college football not want a playoff? Seriously?
Well congrats BO, now we atleast know you have one and only one good idea!
I'm not sure we want the government in on deciding college football rules, although a playoff system's not bad!
I have to agree with President elect Obama about a college football playoff system, & why not ,the NFL does it I think some colleges who are undefeated but the NCAA says they don't have a tough schedule & then that team doesn't get a fair shake & thats unfair. Playoffs see who the better team is
I don't know if 8 teams is enough. Don't you think that if you drew the line at the top eight ranked teams right now, that there would be others beefing about not getting in? Look at Ball State and other undefeated teams. Will you have more than one PAC-10 rep? Four from the Big 12? Anyway, the problem will always, always be who gets left out, even if you work out some system with the bowls.
I like the idea of having a playoff game in early December to determine the top 8 who get to go to the bowls. Scratch whichever bowl can't come up with the money to pay off the NCAA.
I know this is a problem, but it shows that the NCAA-bowl-TV aliance is impure.
I agree with the President elect. We need a playoff. If the BCS is so great then we should do away with all other sports playoffs and just let some people sit in a room and decide who's #1 in each sport.
