Auburn RB Brad Lester Predicts Two Wins at Amen Corner by 'A Good Number of Points'

It's never a good idea to guarantee victory. It sets you up to look like a moron and it provides good bulletin board material for your opponents. Apparently Auburn running back Brad Lester didn't get the memo. On the Tigers' two remaining games, Lester thinks his team not only should win... but will also put up "a good number of points":
"It's a disappointing season, but we feel like we can make up for our season by winning these last two," Lester said. "If we win these last two games, it won't be as bad."

And Lester wasn't lacking confidence. The Tigers, he said, should win both games.

"I have no doubt in my mind," Lester said. "We should beat both teams by a good amount of points. I feel real good about it."
Now, I'm not sure if Lester has been watching the same Auburn team that the rest of us have, but at this point promising even one win in the next two games would be gutsy. But to suggest that they'll win both? And by "a good number of points"? Insanity.

This Auburn team has averaged less than 14 points per game in conference, and a decent number of them have come on special teams or turn-overs. It's laughable to think that Auburn will even score "a good number" of points against Georgia and Alabama combined, let alone beating either one of them by that description.

Auburn has only beaten Georgia twice in the last six years and is riding a two-game losing streak. Their recent record against Alabama has been markedly better, but this isn't the same Auburn team that we've seen for the past few years and it's certainly not the same Tide team. Historically, Auburn has only beaten an undefeated Alabama team twice in nine attempts and has a 4-17 record against the Tide in seasons where Alabama went on to win 10+ games.

But you don't really need to do a deep historical analysis to figure out that the team who is 100th in total offense and 102nd in scoring offense probably isn't going to beat a Georgia team who is 28th in total defense (63rd in scoring defense) and an Alabama team that is 4th in total defense (7th in scoring defense) by "a good number of points."

That said, I'm sure the Bulldog and Crimson Tide defensive coordinators appreciate the bulletin board material, Mr. Lester.
