Hey, remember back in August when Virginia Tech was the envy of the rest of the ACC because they had two viable QB's, whereas most other squads had none that they knew of at the time? Well, I guess that's sorta gone the way of everyone being jealous of Clemson's backfield: last week's loss against Florida State was demoralizing both emotionally and mentally, but in anticipation of a game against Maryland that's arguably must-win, we're seeing the physical attrition. Both Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor both suffered ankle injuries and will be wearing protective boots until at least the end of this week. Meaning that Corey Holt, former backup WR and fifth-year senior could be the go-to guy for the Hokies this weekend. He played rather admirably during the fourth quarter against the Seminoles, completing 3 of 6 passes for 28 yards, including a touchdown that brought the Hokies within seven before ultimately losing 30-20. And though Holt starting may not affect them all that much (Mike O'Cain is Billy Corgan, the offense itself is post-Adore Smashing Pumpkins), just know that if Holt goes down, they've got a TE taking second-team snaps. But then again, they are playing Maryland as an unranked team, and the Terps tend to be more comfy against teams that have a number next to their name on TV.
