In the aftermath of the loss to Wake Forest last week, Bowden announced that Harper would not be the starter this week. Basically throwing Harper under the bus. So naturally, Harper wants nothing to do with Bowden.
"Friends that were with Harper say that Tommy was calling his phone nonstop after the announcement and that Cullen ignored him," reads another Tigertown text we received yesterday. "The players are with Cullen. They are pissed (Bowden) is trying to put the blame on them."Not hard to agree with Harper. He's more than proved that when he has a whisper of a chance to throw the ball, that he is capable of making things happen. The young offensive line has let him and the fine stable of running backs down this year. This is something that only the coaches could fix, and they didn't. Note to coaches with star offensive players and poor offensive production, don't throw your players under the bus. Karma is a cruel mistress.

OMG, please learn how to spell before writing, and actually knowing how to spell the coach's name would be nice!

Tommy Bowden is a fine man and Cullen Harper is probably a fine young man but neither one of them could preform at the level that is expected to lead a Clemson football program. Cullen lacks speed and heart. With enough desire he could have made plays but instead when the off line failed at all he was happy to run off the field after third down and blame it on someone else instead of being their leader. He played like a kid with some royal entitlement to the job. A perfect example of this is when he stepped out of bounds on the Clemson sidelines against N.C. State 1 yard short of a much needed first down instead of taking a hit and easily getting the 1st.
He needs to show as much heart and emotion as Spiller the next time he gets a chance to play QB at Clemson. Being QB at Clemson University is a great priviledge not an entitlement.I just wish Tommy had taken the lead from the "Old ball coach" and been willing to bench a QB when it was needed and see what another talented kid could do. I was at the Duke Game 3or 4 years ago and watched Tommy allow Charlie to loose a game for Clemson just because he was having a bad day. We all have them, and there should be no shame in sitting out a half of football for the team. Tommy proved he either was hard headed about it or couldn't make the tough decisions when he needed to!
Best of Luck to Tommy and his family but his change was long overdue!

spoken like a true Gamecocks fan. Bowden or bowen as you call him forgot that the head coach takes all blame.
Forget about George Rogers and focus on today.
Go Buckeyes

As a longtime Tiger fan, let's remember the athletic director needs to go also for hiring Tommy. It was obvious from the first game those boys didn't want to play for him. Is Danny Ford available?

When are you going to realize the bowden acorn fell far from the tree. Just because dad can coach doesnt mean the boys can.
Hire an alumni that understands Clemson and what is important to the University. Winning and beating the cocks and Georgia.
Go Bucks!

Cullen Harper is not good. He may have stats that say otherwise but if you watch him he is not that good, Kelly and Spiller just made him look good He is prone to overthrowing and underthrowing his wide recievers, when running slants he usually leads them WAY too much, he has TERRIBLE ball placement, and his IQ is complete garbage. Case and point was at the end of the Clem Wake Forest game. Of all the various routes he could have picked in the last FOUR minutes of the game, he decided to go for the touchdown each time he (over)threw into double coverage. As I type this Harper just fumbled the ball, he sucks, Bowden sucked and Clemson's O-line sucks, their only saving grace is their skilled wideouts and decent defense.

His stats last year don't exactly agree with you.

If he was getting any help from the O line, I'd expect he'd be doing the same or better this year. Some have him projected as one of the first quarterbacks to get drafted.

No Bowden should not have been fired. I am not a Clemson fan, but with the injuries that the team has had creates problems for any coach. It does look like Harper is not very mature and while he was 15-35 in the Wake game that indicates a lack of protection, from the line or he is really not that good.

Bowden should have been fired years ago. He does not know how to motivate his team, he blames them for mistakes when the buck inevitably stops with him. Our offensive line is not tough enough and not ready to play this year and therefore we don't know if Cullen is up to last year's performance. Willie Korn is a great qb and deserves to play but let's treat these young men with dignity. They are college students not professional athletes. The Coach should always take the fall for his team - afterall he makes the big bucks. We need a coach who will bring the class back to Clemson University!

I agree it was time for a change, but seriously doesn't know how to motivate a team? I remember plenty of games when his teams were motivated. I also remeber plenty of games when they were not. But having coached, I can tell you at the end of the day the kids have to turn it on. You can't do it for them. You can do all you can, but they have to. Actual coaching experience helps one understand!

Tommy is a class act, who by the way had a 7-2 record agaist the Gamecocks. He never had a losing season, never had a losing record in the ACC, and was bowl eligible every year. His players had a high graduation rate and under Tommy there were not very many problems outside the football field or class room.

Well, if Cullen Harper thinks Tommy Bowden got what he deserved, then didn't Cullen get what he deserved, since he's not the starter anymore? if Willy Korn still gets to start, that is.

It seems you are all missing the point. Tommy should be held accountable for the teams overall performance but should have replaced the offensive co-ordinator before the firing. It is sad when you have the great young talent that is at Clemson and don't build your offense to make use of their natural talents.

I totally agree with you. The offensive co-ordinator should have been fired last year. When you have 2 of the best running backs in the country and you keep running plays up the middle and the line cant block for them CALL ANOTHER F-ING PLAY. When you dont have the line to block for your backs then run different plays.

Lets not forget that Clemson's first responsibility is to educate young people! How everyone(coaches;faculty;AD;players and fans) deal with adversity is part of that education!
