Approximately 59% of Ohioans Prefer an OSU Win Over Michigan to Economic Prosperity

I understand that polls are fickle beasts. If you look at a FOX news Presidential poll versus a CNBC Presidential poll, you'll likely get different results. Whatever, that's the nature of demographics and what not.

But that is zero excuse for the results -- via Shysterball -- of a recent poll on Buckeyextra, the Columbus Dispatch's "Home for Ohio State Sports".

Ohhhhhhhhhkay. Breathe. Actually, just go ahead and scream. Bear in mind that I just voted "YES" and that when Shyster posted this at 3:13 P.M., it was 58% that had voted "NO".

In other words, as all of these people, who are being totally screwed out of tons of money and losing their inheritances and losing their retirements and having their homes foreclosed on are getting off of work, they're coming back and voting "NO".

This is a sporting event we're talking about people. And one made all the more meaningless by the fact that neither team is winning a national title, and even if they had a shot, they'd get whipped by SECS. (The last "S" stands for "Speed".) And this isn't a break even scenario for the economy either; we're talking about a gain of 4,000 points for the stock market and American economic stability re-realized.

It's sad and depressing. But at least I get to add another reason to the "List of Why I Won't Ever Move to Ohio".

Ummm, it was a joke poll and people answered it in kind. No one should be taking the results seriously? Anyone who does is perhaps the real problem.

I wonder if they'd feel any different had they actually attended a college like OSU? Or any college at all, for that matter.

Considering this is coming from a OSU fan site and is obviously a joke, what do you expect?

Even ignoring those self-evident observations a 5-year-old can make, you somehow turn this into another "Hate on OSU" post - instead of acknowledging the loyalty and devotion of the fans, you criticize them. Really? You have nothing better to write about?

Seriously, how do people like you get these blog gigs. I know blogs are amateur and all, but at least make an effort to disguise your blatant lack of journalistic ability.

Actually, when you consider those voting in this poll (created for humor), the game isn't more meaningless to them due to neither team being in the title hunt. It is The Game and just as meaningful to the fans regardless of records. If you are going to write about it, at least understand the rivalry and step out of your biased view rather than posting to say "Hey, look I posted something." If we follow your stance, I guess rivalry games are less significant to the fan bases (those voting in this poll) if they don't have title implications...oh wait, that contradicts the entire nature and foundation of a rivalry game. In a rivalry game, the records only mean something to the national marketability of the game and the bandwagon jumpers.

I also wonder on the truthiness of this poll. First, it doesn't report a number of voters and I haven't seen it budge from the 59/41 split. Has anyone else?

Well - I think its promising that some people set material things aside, and are more in touch with their emotions. Besides, why would you vote to lose to guarantee it, if there's still the chance you could have BOTH?

Why would you give up a year of bragging rights with your rival for a one day surge that would likely go down the next. It was not a guarantee of "economic stability". Now if you could guarantee a 15% return per annum with low inflation for the rest of my life...
