Everyone knows Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson is "dead coach walking." So naturally, coaching speculation would start early. The imminent dismissal of Robinson has picked up more steam with a bye week coming up after the Pitt-Syracuse game tomorrow.Reports are now circulating on the internet and on local sports radio that ex-Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr has been seen at Syracuse today. He was also in Syracuse last weekend. Carr has no ties to the present Orange coaching staff, so there is little reason for him to be up there.
Naturally, for Syracuse fans this has fueled something akin to optimism. The idea that Carr might be lured out of his retirement to take over the Orange would indeed be heady stuff.
Reality is likely far different. If Carr is indeed up in Syracuse, it seems more likely that he would be there to offer advice and get his opinion on potential candidates for the job. Brady Hoke? Mike DeBord? Ron English?
Carr retired last year from Michigan. He has remained active in Michigan in charity works and public appearances. It was even announced today that he would be the public face for a student mentoring program in Michigan. Lloyd Carr is not going to be leaving the State of Michigan for the Syracuse job (or any other).

Please take him! The thought of him being the AD at Michigan is a scary thought. He changed the caliber of Michigan football in a very negative way. More bully's than athletics, very poor graduation rate, Bo had a way with students, fans and players that gained the love and respect of all who came in contract with him. Carr never gained that notority despite his record. Bo produced leaders, carr with few acception brought along a lot of thugs!

What, Rob?
Say what you will about him being a bad coach (I don't think he was, but that's debatable), but Lloyd Carr did not run an overly-loose program.
There were some off-field issues in his early years, mostly by Moeller recruits and some from Carr's first recruiting class. But not much after that.
Your accusations would be laughable if they came from some 14-year-old tOSU fan. But, since they're coming from a UM fan, I'll have to say you're probably clinically insane to think Carr let the program be run by bullies and thugs. Which thugs?
Carr might be called many things -- curmudgeon, stodgy, old-fashioned -- but I have *never* heard him called dirty.

Rob, what the heck are you smoking?
First, Carr is not going to be the AD, has never been mentioned or rumored for the job (which is not even open or potentially going to be open anytime soon). So I have no idea where you got that lunacy from.
Second, Carr may have been a B+ coach but he has shown time and again that he is an A+ human being and would be supported by the UM community in whatever endeavor he chose to undertake.
To be clear, I have no doubt that Carr will remain retired to focus on charitable works and filling the role of senior statesman for Michigan that Bo used to fill prior to his passing.

I agree. Maybe he didn't have a great record against Ohio State, but Coach Carr was one of the best coaches in the history of UM football. He ran a clean and competitive program, winning a national championship and 5 Big Ten titles. I have no doubt that if he remained as coach, U of M would be vying for the Big Ten crown again this year. He's a class individual.
I'd love to seem get back into coaching at the U of Toledo for a couple years, and get two more cracks at Ohio State with the Rockets home and home series with the Buckeyes;)
