So we're three games into the Rich Rodriguez era at Michigan, and so far, things aren't looking too good. Big Blue lost it's home opener for the second straight year, this time against Utah, and while the defense showed marked improvement against Miami of Ohio, they regressed at Notre Dame on Saturday. Though, it's not really fair to blame the defense for giving up 35 points to the Irish when the offense handled the ball as if it had been soaked in the leftover bacon grease from Charlie Weis' Saturday morning breakfast.Still, Rich would like to remind the Michigan faithful that the process of turning the program back around isn't going to take place overnight. There's still work that needs to be done, but he's optimistic that his boys are going to get things figured out eventually.
"I told (the media) and I told the team before, there's going to be some adversity," Rodriguez said. "If you thought there wasn't going to be, you're not really paying attention to where our program is at and the people we lost. Are you kidding me? We don't have a bunch of three- and four-year starters that have been through this, been through that there before, and rally the troops. So that's what the coaches are going to do.
"They understand I want them to be ticked off after we lose, to understand how we are going to work and how we're going to press forward and do all the things we're supposed to do to have a successful program, and we'll be unwavering in that regard. But, also, I don't want them after 24 hours to be hanging their head real low and walking around moping. Now this might now be what Michigan fans want to hear after growing accustomed to seeing their team play well all season and waiting for the Ohio State game to collapse, but it's the truth. Anyone who honestly expected the Wolverines to come out and put up another nine win season in 2008 is an idiot, and with games against Wisconsin, Illinois, and Penn State coming up in the next month, life isn't going to get any easier in Ann Arbor.
"Obviously, we've got to get a little better in all three phases, but the sky is not falling. I can tell you this, there's a lot of positive things going on that maybe people outside our building don't see as far as the work ethic and steps that we're making. I've been through this before and as I said, I'm disappointed that we lost two games, but not discouraged because there are too many things that I see internally that are going to lead to some pretty neat things in the future."

Tom, anyone who has watched all three of Michigan's games this season will tell you that they showed plenty of improvement against ND. Yes, they fumbled a ton, which is bad and cost them the game. But they were able to sustain drives for the first time this season. They had a breakout day from the freshman RB and the QB controversy is over thanks to a solid outing by Steven Threet.
Yes, it was a loss and there are plenty of things to improve upon, but calling it a regression shows that you have not been watching this team play.

Almost 400 yds of offense. Yes, the fumbles were atrocious, but UM looked good. The defense can be held accountable for 7 of the 35 points., thanks to turnovers and horrendus officiating.
Glad someone can see past the two losses to what's really going on.

400 yards of offense (17 points)... Against a horrid Notre Dame team and everyone is trying point out how much improvement Michigan has shown. Paleeeeeeeez..... It's friggin Notre Dame.. Michigan fans want to hang their hats on an 18 point loss to NOTRE DAME?!!!
Next they will be thumping their chests over their slim victory over Miami of Ohio.
Rich Rod's offense wasn't productive on a national scale until (enter Pat White) he got a once in a generation QB. His offense simply will not work against athletic defenses with speed (like most of the upper echelon schools like UF, USC, LSU, possess). He will beat the hell out of the Northwesterns, Akrons, of the world, however. His offense sneaked up on college football... Now, many have adopted the same offense and have defensed the same offenses. RRodriguez is incapable of tweaking his offense due to his arrogance of thinking no one can stop HIS offense.... (enter Pitt as a 28 point underdog trying to knock off a team that only has to win to play for it all in New Orleans).
He and his offense spit the bit everytime there was big pressure or a prepared team. How you Michigan fans don't recognize it now is unbelievable. When he was at West Virginia, Michigan fans mocked and ridiculed West Virginia for playing a weak schedule and losing to teams like So. Florida and Louisville... Now, you look at the former leader of West Virginia as some super coach and leader that will take Michigan to levels Michigan hasn't seen since the 40's.
Michigan lost its identity with the hiring of Rodriguez. Michigan will no longer put nearly as many players in the NFL. And, unless Rich Rodriguez humbles himself enough to tweak his system, Michigan will have lost it's stature as a top 3 Big 10 school.
Michigan sold their collective soul to the devil and got a pig in a poke. Now they are all smearing lipstick on that pig and calling it a supermodel.

Excellent point David. Rich Rod's offense was totally shut down in BCS games against Georgia and Oklahoma.

David, you're either an angry 'eer or an ignorant buckeye. Either way, what Gnarls said hit the nail on the head. And don't think for a moment that RichRod won't be able to recruit a QB with Pat White's ability every year when he's selling U-M to a high schooler. Heck, he's got two higher-rated QBs coming in 2009. They may not both turn out to be Pat White, but I would be willing to bet one of them will be pretty darn good.

RichRod is a very good coach. He will bring Michigan back to 10-2, 11-1. He may very well contend for a National Championship. When that happens, he's gone to the NFL. Enjoy the 5 years you have with him. He is all about the business and this is from someone who thanks him profusely for all he did for WVU football. If you think he's a lifer, I've got some Las Vegas Real Estate that you may be interested in.
Settled in California, but still a Mountaineer in heart and soul.

I like how every one of RichRod's QB recruits has to be immediately compared to Pat White. I can't wait to see what he does with the two 4-star commits (#12 & #24 position rating) He's already got, considering White was a 2-star, rated 53rd.

Let's try this post again:
RR doesn't need another Pat White to succeed at UM. He has been successful everywhere he has coached, and turned slow-footed Shaun King into an NFL QB.
Ironically enough, the commit who most resembles White, Jeremy Gallon of Apopka, is being recruited as an "athlete" and probably won't have a chance to play QB. It would be great to see him throw a few option passes from TB or the slot, though.
As for the pathetic David, he is just another in a long line of Michigan haters with no lives. If UM hired Jesus as their coach with Buddah, Ghandi, Lao Tzu, and Mohammad as his assistants, David would say they "lack cohesiveness and integrity."
I am guessing David is a WVU fan who sees WVU's fifteen minutes of fame disappearing faster than that last minute of regulation did against Colorado.
