If there was anything in the Buckeyes blowout loss that was a positive for Ohio State, it was the play of Terrelle Pryor. Pryor looked like the only Buckeye who even deserved to be on the field with the Trojans on Saturday night, as he completed seven of nine passes for 52 yards and rushed for another 40. As you'd expect after such a loss, the calls for Pryor to take over the starting job have already begun.
It may make a few people in the Buckeyes locker room uneasy, most notably coach Jim Tressel, but there would be no controversy. Pryor, an all-world talent, showed Saturday night against USC that he is ready, maybe not to run all of the plays Boeckman does, or to read defenses the way Boeckman does, or to hang with the upperclassmen the way Boeckman does, but ready to help the Buckeyes regain some of their lost national respect.
This isn't even a tough call. In three huge games in the past three seasons, national championship games with Florida and LSU and Saturday night's game with the No. 1-ranked Trojans, the Buckeyes have looked like a team that is way, way out of its league. While I understand where the Columbus Dispatch's Bob Hunter is coming from, I don't quite agree with him. Had Pryor started for the Buckeyes on Saturday night and played the entire game, would the outcome have been any different? No, maybe Ohio State would have managed more than a field goal, but in the end they'd still be heading back to Ohio with their tails between their legs.
Of course, with two home games coming up against Troy and Minnesota in the next two weeks, if Jim Tressel is actually going to make the switch, now would be the time to do it. That way Terrelle could get a better feel for the job before the Buckeyes head to Madison to take on the Badgers on October 4th.

Come on Tressel. Grow some balls. Put Pryor in NOW!
I'm sick of hearing about how bad Boeckman played. He's not my favorite QB but he had a helmet in his chest almost every play. I hang the embarassment on Tressel and offensive line. Has anyone noticed that Pete Carrol doesn't wear head phones. He has tallented assistants and rely's on them to make the calls. Tressel has surrounded himself with division 2 coach's that will never bring OSU to another national championship...he was lucky against Miami. Tressel is one of the best recruiters in the country but his coaching staff is second rate.
OSU needs new coaching period. Tressel cant make adjustments during games. Its interesting that 8 months ago before the NC game against LSU all that was heard was how great the buckeyes were and what a great coach Tressel was. 2 games later he may be on his way out because Its obvious he wont be bringing a title to Columbus.
the buckeyes were oput manned against USC...no one could have helped
there is nothimg wrong with Jim Tressells coaching or his staff. Just like with any sport you can put a gameplan together and show the leader how to win but they cannot go on the field and play for them . LAST TIME I CHECKED THE BUCKEYES WON THE BIG TEN 3 YEARS IN A ROW. A true BUCKEYE FAN never gives up they always find a way. excuses are like butt holes everyone has one and knows what to use it for.
Tressell knows how to coach and for all you want to be fans you never lose confidence in your team. Pryor ran the team a heck of alot better than Boechman did and led them well. GO BUCKS: "ONCE A BUCKEYE ALWAYS A BUCKEYE"
I agree. Pryor did well. Boeckmans' mind must be elsewhere, like what he'll do after college- it's not going to be NFL. He panics under pressure, resulting in picks and...intentional grounding? which effects the rest of the team, who look to him for field leadership. And he fails to take the pocket, which freshman Pryor had no trouble accomplishing.
Ok buckeye fans keep saying that while your teams beats up on big 10 patsies or good teams that are injured then gets embarrassed in the 3 biggest games that OSU has been in, all within the past 20 months. Its not the talent. Its the game plans/schemes and thats the coaches responsibility. This isnt about whether you're loyal, its about pulling your head out of the sand or where-ever and seeing what the rest of the country sees. Lousy coaching.
Buckeye fans should not take the upcoming game with Troy for granted either. They are a very good small school team. They run the spread very well.Racked up a 65 -0
win last week over a weak Alcorn st team but could have easily put over 100 on the board if they did'nt empty the benches in second half. I'm not saying Troy will win but crazy things happen. Like Michigan and APP ST last year or Troys dismantling of a good Oklahoma ST.
The Big Ten stinks...the Buckeyes stink...and the Buckeye fans REALLY stink.
anyone that says The Big Ten stinks..the Buckeyes stink..and the Buckeyes fans REALLY stink eats buggers
everybody loses big games,no one team is untouchable!like the hurricanes, gators,LSU,tennesse, georgia, alabama we all lose to a better team when they have more motivation!!! you just cant win them all,so be a true fan and support your team and coach.i mean come on,the last time i checked tressell wins more than he loses! GO,BUCKEYES!!!
Dude!!!!!Pryor is good, no doubt, but beokman, i will admit i do not favor over pryor, is a decent QB pryor is better, but beokman has been sitting on those sidelines, his time to shine. last year he proved himself worthy of being the starter this year. and tressel is a great coach, prob the best in the nation. its execution tho. my high school has great coaches but.......our OL dosnt do **** im sorry but they dont, and that is what happend against USC nothing to do its over. and i garunteeeeeeeeee if chris wells was playing we would have won, with that morale boost we could have won. and the VERY first OSU drive on thrid down when the handed it off to boom herron he got 3 yds and then got tackled with 1 arm otherwise it was an easy 1st down i GARUNTEE no USC idiot could takle Beanie with 1 arm and i will be willing to bet OSU wins big ten title again, so what if they lose 1 game
I don't know, something is definitely wrong with the coaching staff here, maybe Tressell himself.I know the Buckeyes have NOT been prepared to play in these big games.Look at the penalties, the mental breakdowns, the poor tackling and Line play on both sides.Does Anderson Russell even have a clue as to what he's supposed to be doing? It's quite obvious that Boeckman doesn't.If we were losing close games,I could live with that, but being demoralized and demolished with the obvious talent we have, screams out loud, something else is wrong here.
"In Tessel We Trust"
Its not Boeckman fault they lost the game against USC. USC took advantage of their weakness which was Boeckman wasnt as mobile as Proyor was in the pocket. So why not send a 6 man rush up the gut. But its Tressels fault for not makin the transition, all he had to do was make his receivers cut cross the middle and once the defense adapt to that it opens up the offense because the Trojans won't blitz as much
