"WTF. December already?"
The Clemson Tigers were the hope of the ACC this year, especially after Virginia Tech coughed up an L to East Carolina in Charlotte earlier today.
Yes, I understand that Wake Forest and *shudder* North Carolina are supposed to finish with good records and have dangerous teams (note that Carolina only beat McNeese St. by a touchdown). But still, Clemson, Tommy Bowden, Lightning, Thunder, Hope.
Or, at the very least, I think we all believed that maybe Tommy could take his team deep enough into the season with a high enough rank that the BCS berth they earned vis a vis the ACC title would seem legitimate. Okay, okay, fine. We knew that Clemson wouldn't be flat out embarrassed by Nick Saban and Alabama in Atlanta during week one.
Or, perhaps I'm delusional. Because Clemson got destroyed 34-10 by the Tide on Saturday night, in the ACC's third consecutive national television debacle of the first weekend of the college football season.
The score should have been worse than it was, especially considering 'Bama settled for three field goals deep inside Tiger territory, and Clemson's lone TD came off a C.J. Spiller kickoff return to open the second half.
Yes, Alabama is much, much, better than anyone could have thought -- I think. Because I'm not totally ready to say that Clemson is much, much, much-much-much worse than anyone could have possibly imagined. But when you have the best running back tandem in the entire country in Spiller and James Davis, and they somehow manage to only put together 20 total rushing yards, well, something is wrong.
Which could be the fact that they only attempted eight rushes. Which speaks volumes about what type of coach they have running the show down in Death Valley; one who, had his father not allegedly punted a game his way a few years ago, might still be looking for a job.
Granted, Clemson didn't do anything with any of their rushing attempts, but, it seemed from the get-go (and I noted this in the evening football chat) that Bowden would abandon the obvious gameplan and attempt to air it out, like some rookie NCAA '09 player. Which, incidentally, is exactly what happened.
Again, not to take away from the Tide -- John Parker Wilson looked vastly matured, the 'Bama defense was absolutely stifling, and Mark Ingram and Glen Coffee might have averaged about 19.2 yards per carry, or at least it felt like it. But there was something significantly missing from Clemson as a whole. And whether or not you believe in intangibles, you certainly have to believe in "coaching", and the Tigers lacked it Saturday night.

This is a pretty funny line that he reverses the trend and chokes early.

The ACC is soft this year.
ACC= A CUPCAKE CONFERENCE
As a SEC fan , I hope they give Tommy another long term contract and big raise to stay. Our best weapen.
Weapen?/?/? How about weapon.
It amazes me that the SEC is by far the best conference in football, but they don't get the credit because as soon as one of these mediocre teams from another conference has a good game against a team that is not even mediocre, they go crazy and start saying they are going to make it to the bcs. Sadly unfortunately they do because they play in easy conferences. As soon as they meet up with solid SEC teams, they are slaughtered. Example: Hawaii? Give me a break. They are all over Ohio State again this year, #2?....How?....Any SEC team with a solid team could run rampid all over Ohio State. The exception to the rule would be USC. They generally have a good team, but overall, most of these conferences are mediocre at best and the sports casters are all over them. Hmmm, seems to me last year ended up with LSU and Georgia in the top two spots and SEC are all over the top 25 starting out this year. Any of these teams would go undefeated without challenge in most other conferences....The ACC is a joke and the Big Ten is a joke as is the Big 12, but don't dare say that outloud because they will argue with you to the depths of the earth so once again the SEC will prove yet another year why they are by far the best conference in football....end of story....
the local clinic down the road is giving lessons on what to do if you choke. i heard that tommy bowden was the guest speaker..
Clemson? Do they have men's football? :)
And BTW, Sabin will also fill his choke quota this year.
