With about 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter of the Alabama - Clemson "game" (if you can call it that) Brent Musberger said that, to paraphrase, the "good thing about this loss" is that the can still win the ACC Championship, which was their ultimate goal.He and Kirk Herbstreit went on to debate whether or not that was a legitimate possibility, given the fact that Clemson has, up to this point, been getting freaking pummeled. And I'm sure that's a reasonable question, along with the the debate as to whether the ACC deserves to play football this year.
But the bigger issue I have is that Burger just pulled a Billy Packer and said that the game was over ... in the third quarter. And Clemson only down three scores. Personally, Packer's "over" statement in the Carolina - Kansas game didn't bother me outside the jinx possibilities of having the Tarheels come back, but it bothered a lot of sponsors.
So I'd at least like to see Brent, who is, like Billy, a ranting old school homer in the announcing booth each week, get some short of chastising for what equates to the exact same thing. I have to imagine that Chik-Fil-A, who coughed up a ton of money for this game, probably took notice. So, Brent, if you wake up and there's a giant tomahawk chopping cow staring in your Atlanta hotel room, you'll know why.

I really do not use blogs to be negaive but this time I can't resist. I can't stand Brent Musburger! If he is working a sporting event I will NEVER watch with the sound on. He
can retire from announcing forever as far as I am concerned.

When did announcers have to start lying on the job?
Was the game over? Yes. This game was a much different animal than the KU- UNC game. Comparing the two is comical. One team was clearly outclassed in tonight's game. That was not the case in the NCAA tournament.

Billy Packer made his call with 7 minutes left in the first half. That's a little bit different than Brent saying it with 1 quarter left, with Clemson down 3 scores. Especially when you consider the new clock rules.
Plus Packer did it in a Final Four game, not an opening weekend game when there were other games on.
You might not like Brent, but this is trying to make something out of nothing.

The third quarter? You waited until the third quarter to find something so quote-worthy as to post it online? Where were you BEFORE kickoff?
Musburger said (before commercial break) that Clemson had returned to Atlanta seeking revenge. During commercial break, even I got to wondering -- when was the last time Bama beat Clemson? Turns out, it was thirty years ago. Hello!?!?
We all know what he meant (the '07 loss to AU), but "revenge" is so not the word. Why would those Tigers think that beating Bama in any way constitutes revenge? Uh, they beat us, too!? For the most part, if he still hasn't grasped the gravity of differences between Bama and Auburn, then maybe they should have cut his mic right then and there.
Come to think of it, as much as I enjoyed that pummeling, it could have only been better had JP not overthrown two receivers (for what would have been first quarter touchdowns -- awe karumba, the red zone curse ... again!), or, had Musburger not been the announcer from the get-go.
I agree -- he sucks! And no matter how clever those new Chick-fil-a commercials are, I ain't goin' to eat me no chikens until they the Musburger off the menu!!!

Brent Musberger believes that all of those "Thesaurus" words make him a class act. That is just smokescreen talk for a guy that has never played the game of Football. To pair him with a knowledgable individual like kirk Herbstreit should be looked at as a disgrace. Billy Packer at least played the game he was an analyist in!
