USC Recruit Found Guilty of Robbery Charges

If you fall into the camp that believes USC can do no right, this confirms your worst suspicions. Of course, by the pre-enrollment timing of the incident it appears USC will avoid being docked Fulmer Cup points. Sneaky.

The details on would-be USC linebacker Maurice Simmons:

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies arrested Simmons and [Lamont Lee] Hall after they allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint on a Compton street.

Authorities said they found a handgun and the belongings of the alleged victim in Simmons' car.

Simmons, a Compton Dominguez High graduate, had been charged with felony robbery, assault with a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of allowing someone to bring a gun into his car. He will be sentenced Aug. 28.

University administrators will now review Simmons' admission to USC.

Ya think!? Hopefully that involves putting a big red X over his files and declaring "there's the door." USC has had a quiet offseason other than this incident, but it wouldn't be USC without this news and "new" details in the never-ending Reggie Bush saga to put a damper on the preseason buildup.

To answer the song: yes, I still want to cry. Harbaughed? Oh the misery.

The Simmons family has a longtime connection to USC (and his younger brother is committed to play the following year), otherwise I think USC would have parted ways with him long ago.

This seemed like a slamdunk case unlike say, the allegations against Mark Sanchez a few years ago.

Eighteen year olds do things by impulse rather than logic. Sports in the lives of these young athletes are just a part of their lives. Not like the fans who live to see another game. Although colleges racks in millions on the backs of these young players none of this money ends up in the pockets of the players to help them buy their necessities. A scholarship doesn't mean jack if you don't have spending money in your pocket. You are going to see more senseless things as this among young black athletes. Why? No one has their back. Young white recruits have the "under the table" help. I don't blame Mr. Simmons per se, I blame this stinking society of ours that deals these black players of the hood a losing hand.

Come on. I am a son and a father. If you committ a crime, you should pay the price. This White v Black crap is nothing but crap. I am African American and a former High School basketball coach in Washinton, DC. A criminal act is just that, a criminal act; no matter what color you are.

Are you telling me that young Black athletes are dumber than white young athletes. I don't think so.

I think it in the first name, as Maurice.....My beloved Buckeye's had a Maurice........we saw "stars" in his running and a title with his talent but then he got the big head and returned to his roots..........he's now in jail for about the same thing as the USC guy. Sorry to say, they don't think right or understand what they could have for their future and that of many others....dumb ass, comes to mind.
