UCLA Suspends Starting Safety Bret Lockett for Opener Against Tennessee

But don't bother asking coach Rick Neuheisel about it, he's on vacation. Bold move there coach, taking time off just a few months into the job.

Quick aside -- check out this bit of genius from Flight of the Conchords on the dangers of being named Bret/Brett.

Anyway, the nitty gritty:
Rick Neuheisel suspended starting strong safety Bret Lockett for one game, according to sources.

The decision came after Lockett, a senior, violated the team's academic policy.

He will be allowed to participate in training camp, and he is expected back when the Bruins travel to BYU on Sept. 13 for their second game of the season.

Lockett's absence may just give incoming hyped recruit Rahim Moore a chance to play and shine in the opener. Moore was heavily recruited nationally and dodged repeated advances from USC in choosing the rival Bruins. Keep an eye out for him.
