Bob Hertzel did not misspell anything. He didn't call the Michigan legend Anthoni Carter. He used the name of a wide receiver who happened to be quite good himself at Michigan's arch-rival.

That's not something a squiggly red line can fix...

Brian Cook has changed his article, without making note of the change.

He originally misspelled "Cleveland".

Now he's trying to cover it up.

. . . just sticking up for honesty/accuracy in media.

Brian, you need to note any substantive changes/edits you make after the fact. Your stupid misspelling of "Cleveland" in an article whose point is to rip on someone else's apparent inability to spell, is a MAJOR SUBSTANTIVE issue.

Actually, Kustie, it's not a "MAJOR SUBSTANTIVE" issue because the point of Brian's post was not "to rip on someone else's apparent inability to spell," but to rip on that person's apparent inability to tell the difference between Anthony Carter (born in 1960, played in college from 1979-82) and Cris Carter (born in 1965, played in college from 1984-86). See, Cris Carter would have been only 14 years old in 1979 when the #1 jersey was first handed out - far short of college (short of high school, even).

The extra "h" is incidental to Brian's point. Your missing the point of Brian's post is nearly as funny as Hertzel's screwup.

Brian Cook is making fun of the original author's spelling. Getting a dig in, ridiculing the guy because he can't spell.

And yet, Brian Cook spells Cleveland "Clevelan" in the FIRST FRIKKIN WORD of his post!

So, rightly, i ridiculed Brian Cook. Because he deserved it, for misspelling the FIRST WORD of a post in which he purports to ridicule someone else's inability to spell.

Rick, who came after me in the comments, seemed to "get it". I.e., it's hilarious to watch a writer beclown himself.

Brian Cook, not wanting people to see how stupid he made himself look, "disappeared" the part of his post that made him look stupid.

As a result of his having made this substantive change to his post, MY comments look misplaced and, well, as stupid as Cook's original comment.

You had best believe i'm going to come back and stick up for myself, and in turn point out Brian Cook's dishonesty.

Cris Carter was a STAR at OSU. It's common knowledge to anyone that's ever seen a highlight of AC and his dance in the end zone that the man doing that is NOT named Cris or Chris Carter.

I wasn't aware that I even commented on where Cris Carter played, or even the substance of who the receiver in the picture was.

All I ever did was (rightly) hold up Brian Cook for ridicule because he committed a stupid spelling error in the FIRST WORD of a post in which he ridicules another writer for a FAR LESS STUPID LOOKING misspelling.

I mean, "Cris" is the one with the weird spelled name. To spell it "Chris" is perfectly understandable (if erroneous).

However, there is NO SUCH THING as "Clevelan".

MY POINT, which Rick gets but nobody else seems capable of, is that Brian Cook LOOKS MORE STUPID than the person he is ridiculing.

That, in my book, is kind of funny. That's why i pointed it out.

Only to the reading impaired is this an issue about WHO Cris Carter is or WHERE he played, or ANYTHING ELSE.

The issue has taken on an added dimension, however, because Brian Cook has gone back over his article and committed the FRAUD of un-misspelling the first word of his post. While at the same time, his knock on the other writer's spelling STANDS.

So Brian Cook affords for himself a power and ability to correct his own misspellings, while apparently he does not think other writers should be afforded the same.

First, lay off the meth. Second, you don't seem to understand that Hertzel didn't just leave out one letter; he messed up the whole name. The WR in question is Anthony Carter, not some guy named Chris Carter. Hertzel misspelled the name of the guy with whom he was confusing Anthony Carter, so that's two mistakes right there.

Or at least I am assuming. Perhaps he wasn't thinking of Cris Carter and just accidentally wrote Chris instead of Anthony. Whatever happened, the fact remains that Hertzel and all the other bitter WV sports columnists are a bunch of hacks.

A misspelling is an editing mistake.

A mis-naming is a question of journalistic integrity. You should question a guy's football knowledge if he thinks Cris Carter and Anthony Carter are the same person. You should only question his use of spell check if he forgets the "d" on the end of a city name.

Did you even read the replies? Brian is NOT MAKING FUN OF THE AUTHOR'S SPELLING!!!

He is pointing out that the Hertzel doesn't know the difference between Cris Carter and Anthony Carter.

Anthony was the receiver from Michigan who first wore the #1 jersey in 1979.

Cris was a reciever who wore a #2 jersey for Ohio State in the 80's.

Stop trying to use spelling mistakes as the crux of your argument.

(1) The other writer's misspelling of "Cris" as "Chris"; and

(2) The other writer's complete ignorance regarding Cris Carter, where he went to school, what number he wore, etc.

My comments had NOTHING to do with (2). ZILCH. They had only to do with (1).

And they were only relevant because, hilariously, the FIRST WORD of Brian's post had a misspelled word.

That means either he is incompetent as a proofreader, or is himself very stupid.

And thus my comment.

See, GCS, it's called IRONY, SUBTLETY, HUMOR. The kind of little witty comment that, if you have a good sense of humor (as Rick does above) you "get" and get a little chuckle about. But if you humor-impaired, probably flies right over your head.
