Aaarrarraaarahaa. Oatmeal!Michigan had a commando raid of a Signing Day, picking off recruits from Florida (OL Ricky Barnum), Penn State (RB Michael Shaw) and Purdue (WR Roy Roundree). No doubt someone somewhere will mutter darkly about how Bo wouldn't stand for this sort of thing, but this is just part of the game these days.
Michigan's victims know it. Penn State's impressive 2006 class had something like 7 decommits in it, and Urban Meyer is well-known for recruiting anything that isn't nailed down by a LOI.
Purdue? Well, Purdue ain't happy:
"If we had an early signing date, you wouldn't have another outfit with a guy in a wizard hat selling snake oil get a guy at the last minute, but that's what happened," Tiller said.Evocative imagery from the Big Ten's most crotchety coach, but Tiller wants to take away Roy Roundtree's ability to make a decision he wants to make. If Roundtree wanted to play for Purdue, he would.
More Tiller:
"On the other side of the coin, maybe the guy did you a favor. It makes you wonder about the guy, the people surrounding him, the people in that building who would let that happen. I can say this: We won't go back in that building again and we won't be the only institution not to."Alllllll right! Way to publicly knock the character of a guy who got an offer from Michigan he did not expect and decided to take it. What is wrong with these people and their obviously logical decision-making processes? "That building" is Trotwood-Madison High, which has been loaded with talent the last few years. Tiller's retiring after one more spin around the conference, so that threat won't have long term implications, but hopefully the Rams have long memories.
An early signing period would be nice for coaches, but not for most recruits. A friend of mine has a logical suggestion: implement an early signing period, but make the "signing" non-binding. Coaches other than the school the kid committed to are not allowed to contact or host the recruit, but the recruit can ask the NCAA to withdraw the letter at any time until the February date.
At least then Tiller would know he wasn't getting the best player in his recruiting class.

I just hope the coach doesn't jump on the field and tackle this kid when he runs by him waving -the way coaches used to handle this sort of thing.

Rodriguez is making Michigan be more hated now than ever before, and then watch his @ss take off for somewhere in 5-10 years or go down in some big scandal while we're left with all the animosity. We better win a NC, a Rose Bowl AND just about every OSU game after all the crap we've dealt with since he's come here.

Recruiting is a shady business. Rodriguez is a shady guy. But I guarantee that Purdue wouldn't complain if some guy decomnitted from Michigan to play for them.
For coaching the best team in the Big East, Rodriguez didn't dominate the rivalry with Pitt, splitting the last 4 games. In all 4 season, WVU was clearly the better team.
This should be a concern for Michigan. They need a coach who can get them some wins against tOSU.
While I hate Rodriguez, I hate WVU more. So I'd like to see Michigan win the BCS title next year just for laughs.

I suggest we give rodriguez a chance to coach some games before everyone jumps on him.

First off, most WVU fans are in West Virginia. Now not to be insulting to you, you are wrong on several of your statements.
Those WVU fans who live in West Virginia, cannot afford AOL, nor do they have the intelligence to use it. The same can be said about the laptop computer. The crunchy poofs are more likely moon pies, and twinkies. They do not have a clue as to what google is, many here think it is something you do to a cousin. You should also be aware in order to cut and paste, one must have the computer. I think we covered that already. And I am not even going to comment on the whacking off.
As for you WVUfan, I live in this god forsaken hell hole. I am glad that I am going moving the hell out. These people in West Virginia, are the sorriest people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. They lie, black stab, cheat, and steal. I could be kind and list several other comments, but I will not. I do however like the birth control comment. To bad people here will not use it. Makes it easier to collect welfare.

Touch a nerve there Tark? Yeah I am in West Virginia. McDowell County. To barrow a phrase. My word is my bound, and all those jokes people make about West Virginia are so very true. I stand by my words.

Memo to: Brian Cook, shameless shill for the \
University of Egocentrism, Ann Arbor campus.
You're kidding, right?
Please, tell the class you're kidding. You have
to be kidding.
Any sane individual, even if it was his/her school,
who witnessed The New Coach score the ultimate hat
track, robbing 3 different schools of orally
committed players, would at least be inclined to
question the ethics of such an individual, would
they not?
But of course, we understand, Mr. Cook. How oould
we not. This is the University of MEEEEEEEEEshigan
we're talking about. And naturally, when we talk
about the Gong Up North, we genuflect three times
(one for each theft) and then sing the praises of
Da New Coach with another chorus of America's
rottenest fight song.
One suggestion, Frere Cook: Don't be trumpeting
the University of Meeeeshigan's school of business
as a center of ethics anytime soon.
Hey, see if you can next year snatch oral commits
from, say, Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa. Then
follow that up in 2010 with some from Minnesota,
ohhh, I don't know, Notre Dame? and Wisconsin and
throw in Northwestern for good measure.
Hey, in just 3 years, Rich Rodiguez would have
whizzed off virtually an entire league and built
a groundwork toward doing the same with the country.
And wouldn't the Maize and Blue be sooooo proud?
What a friggin' cesspool.
