It has been twelve years since the Rams and Raiders left Los Angeles, and with the recent passing of Georgia Frontiere, one of the last people to own a pro football team in Southern California, it is time to reconsider the prospect. All week long, the Los Angeles Times is pitting "sportswriter" Scott Olin Schmidt (ahem, that would be yours truly) against Barry Sanders--the Los Angeles Coliseum Commissioner, not the former Detroit Lion--in their weekly "Dust Up" web feature.
Today's question asks, "Should Los Angeles be spending public money to attract an NFL franchise? Should a pro team play at the Coliseum? Isn't professional football (unlike, arguably, baseball) usually a net loss for municipalities?"
Both Sanders and Schmidt agree: "our great city can live without an NFL team."

The fact that Los Angeles doesn't have a football team is idiotic! Tell you what, the city ought to trade the Clippers for a football team.

Who CARES if an NFL team EVER gets to live in L.A.? They lost TWO NFL teams....explain to me WHY they deserve another? Forget moving another team. Right now you have the STUPIDITY of a Arizona Cardinals and a St Louis RAMS. Its time to move the Cardinals BACK to St Louis and move the Ram to Arizona. No one in L.A. cares about professional football anyway..they barely are conscious for college football.

You are mistaken, Los Angeles already has a professional football team, the USC Trojans. Just ask Reggie Bush.

umm first off it will be a mistak beacust the team will leave like in ten years the other stupid thing is the fact how much crap is going on in LA already we dont need another sport team. Hopefully the nearest thing to a Pro Football team is USC. I go to all the USC games it would be a tradegey if they took that from the colocium. The Trojans haved played there their entire football franchise producing 9 heisman winners and like 10 national championships. WAKE UP L.A. WE GOT ONE ALREADY!

Dont Worry About The NFL Comming To LA hoenestly how many times to they have to try itbesides USC owns a coulple of the parking structures and all the parking around the campus it is about an average of 20,000 parking spaces. now if they retavaite the colocium it will cut from 90,000 seats to 60-70,000 seats now what happens if 20,000 of those people cant find parking spaces hmm i wonder. ANY WAYS FIGHT ON! AND BEAT THE CAVILERS!!!!!!!!!

USCfan101: Couldn't have said it better, actually I did, but that's another story.
USC has the finest college football team money can buy, and, according to the LA Times, that's exactly how they do it. Furthermore, I don't object having "students" like Matt Lenert graduating in their 6 or 7 year after taking a couple of classes in yoga and flower arraigments, but, those 33 year old linemen on steriods is getting a little ridiculous don't you agree?
Anyway, I'm sure Reggie Bush will clear everything up once he testifies at trial, much like OJ did when he testified at his trial.

"Bringing in an NFL team would restrict public access to the Science Center and Museum of Natural History on game days."
This seriously can't part of your argument? Did you have to turn in your man card when you moved to L.A or were you always a sally.

Wow. Did you really just fabricate a post so you could let everyone know that your name appears in the LA Times? C'mon, man- you're better than that...aren't you?
