Win or lose, this is probably the best half of football West Virginia has played all year if you consider the competition. By far, this is the most dynamic the Mountaineer offense has been all year. Even though they have had to settle for field goals mostly, the passing over the middle and runs that went between the tackles have already surpassed anything the team did during the regular season. More importantly, this is also the best the defense has looked all year. I think it's pretty safe to say that interim head coach Bill Stewart has given this team new focus and allowed them to play. Too many times this year, the Mountaineers looked tight and unsure of themselves. Like if someone was standing over them screaming and complaining about every miscue. Yes, I'm looking at you Rich Rodriguez. But tonight, the team is loose and is executing the way we all expected them to this year.
I got the feeling when #19 Vaughn Rivers was running his mouth during the coin toss (something I never thought I would see) that the Mountaineers might not be able to back it up. But nothing could be further from the truth.
With Steve Slaton most likely out for the rest of the game you might think that the Mountaineers would be in trouble. But West Virginia has seen this movie before in last years Gator Bowl. Pat White and company haven't missed a beat with Noel Devine and Owen Schmitt taking over for Slaton. The only question is if they can keep it up through the second half.
Halftime stats worth noting:
Rushing: WVU 159, OU 10
Passing: WVU 96, OU 90
Kick Return Yards: WVU 2/41 yards, OU 5/167

OU is like the Buffalo Bills of the BCS. If they aren't careful Webster's is going start spelling it "chOUke" when you gag on applesauce.

I think West Virgina is better without Rodriguez. I am glad to see them playing so well without him. He is in over his head at Michigan.

Look at the difference in the play calling. Looks kinda fishy to me. Almost like someone calling plays in the Pitt game just gave the game away.

I just watched SEC offocials take a ball game away from another team -- OU. These guys did it to LSU at Kentucky and again in Tiger stadium against the Hogs. They have one eye. SEC officials should be scrutinized more closely and BANNED from BCS bowls. The penalty yardage was ridiculous!!!!!!

Yeah, and I can think of at least three holding penalties on OU that they didn't call. Even the announcers saw the holding. It was going on all day long. Speed kills in many ways!

Yeah, those 30 yard personal foul calls were part of the SEC's plan to make OU choke again.

Give me a break, Terry! Every one of those calls was legit; if anything, the refs gave a few calls away in OU's favor. SEC officials are terrible, but they did a decent job in this one; this OU line was holding just about every other play.
Forget UGA and USC, maybe WVU is the best team in the nation. Unlike Hawai'i and Illinois, Oklahoma is a very good team. And Oklahoma is turning bowl choke jobs into a fine art... big game Bob my ass.

It seems obvious that Coach Rod tanked the Pitt game. Not to take anything away from Pitt, but how could WVU beat arguably the team that should have played for the national title. It would have been hard for Rodriquez to leave for Michigan if WVU would have played for the championship. How much will it cost to throw a game at Michigan for a change to coach at, let's say, Notre Dame or USC?
