As the Kentucky Wildcats get ready for the
severely depleted Florida State Seminoles in the Music City Bowl, Kentucky Coach Rich
Brooks apparently isn't above pointing out a major difference between his program and the eldest Bowden's. His team has no players declared academically ineligible.
Considering what's been going on this bowl season at Florida State and other programs, Coach Brooks said that's a bigger deal than it might seem.
...
So when Brooks told the media that his team had a clean bill of academic health, he added a kicker.
"That isn't what I'm seeing on the ESPN ticker at night for a lot of other people playing bowl games," he said. "Hats off to my players for taking care of business."
That has been an amusing, and occasionally disturbing, addition to the ESPN ticker. Anything to get and keep people interested in watching the host of
program filler bowl games that will be on ESPN for the two week period. That or they are trying to cater to the gambling aspect of the games without being too obvious.

Maybe it is time for Florida State to take stock in their program with the help of the NCAA. I am sure that Bowden dosen't personally stress the academics there like he should, but I would veture to say that his assistants should, along with the Athletic Department to make.
This is just another example of how college footall is going downhill. I watch the Army-Navy game every year for just that reason, to see real students playing the game. The fact that most major colleges are nothing but NFL training camps saddens me.
The worst part of all this is that 20 , maybe 30 years from now those ineleigible players will be likely working menial jobs, in jail or dead. They will never truely realize what they had in their grasp.
College coaches who do not stress academics with their players have no business being in that profession. You can't tell me that Joe Paterno would have let this happen at Penn State. I remember Ben Schwartzwalder telling a starter to stay home and study one week when there was an away game with Minnesotta.
Get real Bowden and be a coach, it's like being a father, sometimes it hurts to do the right things, but it is not always about winning.

Rich Brooks is a class act and sets a good example of how things are suppose to be done. UK is very lucky to have him on the sidelines, just another example of how high the bar is in the SEC.
