Before all y'all - yes, I live in the South - Gator fans get up in arms, know that I come in peace. Urban Meyer is a tremendous coach and arguably the best recruiter east of the Mississippi. His record speaks for itself and I'm a fan of what he's done at both Utah and Florida.
So, did you hear the one about the California receiver who spurned two big-time California passing offenses (California, USC) for Florida? Wonder if it had anything to do with a Florida gymnastics scholarship offered to his girlfriend?
the Gators might have sealed the deal by offering [Carl] Moore's girlfriend, Maranda Smith, a gymnastics scholarship. Smith transferred to Sierra from UCLA, where she was on a gymnastics scholarship before suffering a broken leg. She was considering a scholarship to Arizona this fall."I'm glad we're going to Florida together," Moore said.Or did you hear the one about the assistant coach wearing an apron to help woo a recruit?
[Matt] Patchan, a 6-foot-8, 265-pound tackle, received the full-court press by Florida Wednesday, with five Gators coaches visiting for dinner.According to Patchan's mother, DeAnne, Gators offensive line coach Steve Addazio even put on an apron and helped her cook beef tenderloin.
"It was great," DeAnne said. "I think coach (Urban) Meyer really liked it."
All of this is perfectly legal, shameless ... and highly amusing in print. To tell you the truth it's how business gets done above ground in the crazy college football recruiting game. Florida's great at recruiting and these are but small examples of why.

THE "ER-BEN MY-ER" COUNT DOWN TO THE NFL
....4,3,2,1 HERE COMES ER-BEN TO:
MIAMI?mmmmm
OAKLAND, wellll...not quite yet
FALCONS, nice match!
49'ERS, too close to PC & the Left Coast
KC INDIANS or SAINT LEWIS RAMS.....O'not now...TOO URBAN FOR ER-BEN.
By the way, contrary to the State of Florida belief, Mr. Meyer did NOT invent the spread offense (rather bologna), go the B & N bookstore under football and check out who really DID....give you a hint: over 25 years ago by a coaching legend.....
JUST FACTS MY FRIENDS.
HEY ER-BEN please schedule a football game with SoCAL into the near future before you leave for the NFL. Ohio State was man enough to do it, why not you....OH Yeah, let's remember, UF needs to beat up the panzees first as tune up for SEC competition.
FIGHT ON!
p.s. Congrads to Tim Tebow, he truly earned the Heismann this year....let's see what happens in '08 and beyond.....

Hey USC Blogger. No one ever said Urban invented the spread option...perfected it? Well that's another story.
And about scheduling SC, well we've had our schedule set for the past 5 years, you can't just go ahead and change. Go check out gatorzone.com to see.
So since 5 years ago we've had Miami scheduled, and if I recall coreectly they were a pretty good team back then.
Oh and by the way, everyone wants a piece of the Trojans in Gainesville. You know to help prevent STD's

So do you think the women's gymnastics coach worked with Meyer's people on this to make it possible, or did a memo come down from the AD informing her of the decision? Be interesting to know.

USC Blogger...I'm pretty sure we would have beaten Stanford. When your schedule includes LSU, UGA, Auburn, UT, South Carolina, Florida State, and Kentucky...we'll talk. Gimme a break.

Don,
Gators gymnastics has been a top five program in the hunt for national championships. They would not have given a scholarship to someone who did not deserve it just because the coach of another team asked.

Rowefork,
I am no fan of USC, trust me. But can you SEC jugheads stop bragging about playing Florida St., Kentucky & South Carolina. Florida's schedule did include Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky and Troy with Florida St. being the toughest non-conference game at 7-5 in the ACC! The Gators lost two conference games at home for pete's sake.
I would laugh my ass off if I saw USC blogger write, " I'm pretty sure we would have beaten Vanderbilt. When your schedule includes Arizona St., Oregon, Cal, UCLA, Oregon St. & Nebraska,
...we'll talk. Gimme a break.
