With Rutgers coach Greg Schiano out of the mix, Michigan treks on looking for a head coach. Someone that could be in their sights: Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.
This is still in the rumor stage, though some have heard about this on radio and it is mentioned in the New York Times.
Of course, this would assume that Cincinnati and Lewis divorce. Lewis' current deal runs through to 2010 season ... so despite the Bengals down season, it is unlikely he'd be fired. Owner Mike Brown has never been known to eat any contract. He is to make over $3M a year now, so heading off to Michigan would mean a big pay cut.
Lewis' last college job was linebackers coach for the Pitt Panthers in the early 1990s. He spent 1981-1991 in the college ranks as a LBs coach at Pitt, Idaho State, Long Beach State and New Mexico before getting the same gig in the NFL with the Steelers.
The only way I'd see that is if Lewis really thinks he need to get the heck out of the Queen City that bad. The Bengals are having their worst season in his coaching tenure and people are calling for his job. Plus, there are signs that he has lost this team. Again, Lewis would have to be the one to leave because ownership isn't firing him. Look for Lewis to decline or flat out take his name from the running.
This isn't the only NFL coach that Michigan is looking at. The Saints' Sean Payton says he's not interested despite rumors Michigan has expressed interest. Oakland's Lane Kiffin is also on the Wolverines radar.

Oh yeah. This guy can't even handle growin men. How is he supposed to handle 19 year old boys. Real good pick Michigan. He will have your program on five years probation in no time.

Please, do not inflict my husband's alma mater with Marvin Lewis. I'm a Bengals fan - we live in Cincy. Of course, my husband takes a lot ribbing because he went to Michigan. Marvin was marvelous when he started, but he has lost control of his team. All the bad eggs and the mediocre plays have hurt the team, and he does not seem to be able to insill discipline on the team, and to curb their off-time. They should be taught that the team expects them to act like gentlemen off the field. Many of the players who get into trouble are young and have more money than they know what to do with, and no one to guide them. Obviously, their agents just care for the money they are making off these kids. Anyway, GO BLUE!!!!!!

Get some one with SEC mentality wide open thinking for the offense with a good defensive mind, get it right this time. Carr brought Michigan down a couple of notches. He should be ashame of what he has done by getting contractor for his assistence coaches so they can stay at Michigan what a joke. No good coach in his right mind would accept that kind of deal get out of here. Go Blue!

The Bengals are Criminals because Mavin Lewis is the leader of the THUGS.
Why would you want that enviornment of Drugs, Guns and Crime on a college campus? We already have University of Miami.
I lived in Cincy for two years...... to the east siders and the west siders that don't talk or like each other...... you're the same people!

What is the incentive for Lewis to go backwards like that (other than to get away from the Bengals)?
I'm glad Schiano left that position alone. Its a step up from Rutgers but he wouldn't have nearly the control there of his program.

Marvin Lewis? What has he won. Am I wrong to think that the Michigan job is one of the premium jobs in football in general let alone college football? I just wish UM admin would get really agressive and pay for someone good. My top 3 wish list fo coaches if money was no option - 1. Bill Cowher- he wins, he wins with a tough run game and punishing D, he is young and kids would love him. 2. Brian Kelly - he wins, he knows the spread which has seemed to plague UM for awhile, he is young 3. Jason Garrett - 1. yes he just got his first OC job but most people think he is brilliant, 2. he is young, 3. did I say he was brilliant because he is you know

So this is all Marvin's fault? The Bengals have been terrible for decades. This is the first time since Marvin's been here that we didn't go into the final game with playoff hopes. Before him 3-13, 4-12, 2-14. Shut Up! Anyway they were winning while they were getting into a little trouble. Now that they can't enjoy themselves, they suck. Cincinnati constantly chooses a nice image over winning. Look at UC basketball. The Patriots don't care about a good guy image. And that's why Ohio State will drag Harvard all over the field.

You people are fu--in amazing, before Lewis was there the team was a complete joke, last couple of years you guys were so far up Marvins a-- it was funny. You proclaimed he was the saviour of the team, they have a bad season and you are ready to run him out of town. Rudi is better that Dillon, he doesnt have the stats but he doent cry like a b-tch either, CJ is better than Pickens, and Palmer is way better that Akili Smith. You could always have Schula back. So let me get this one right..... the team could go 1-su-k for the year but that would be ok because they are all a bunch of Jehoho witnesses.Drinking and DUIs and such are nothing new, people get them all the time, the media doesnt hype you and me, but they hype sports. At least the Bengals have enough pieces in place to come around, unlike Miami or the Ravens. Funny, you peeps complain about Lewis, in Philly they complain about McNabb and not Reid.

Someone please take him out of here.I have never seen a coach so soft as Marvin Lewis. We need a coach who is gonna sit players down who put forth no effort out there, we need a firm coach on these players, when i look at marvin i see a lost coach. The defense is lazy and nonathletic, the offense is so called explosive but cant even make plays in the red zone.Rudi Johnson is the most overrated rb, Ive ever seen 1 or 2 yrds dont cut it.This team needs some major work,Carson Palmer needs to be taught how to scramble, maybe if he took a couple of lessons from big Ben, we'd be at least 10-4 now.THIS TEAM IS SORRY!AND TO THINK MY TAX DOLLARS PAY FOR THAT DAMN STADIUM, FOR A LOSING TEAM THAT DON'T CARE...THEY GET PAID REGARDLESS.
