Sigh. Michigan made a run at Greg Schiano yesterday or the day before, apparently offering him the Michigan job in all ways but giving him an actual contract to sign. The result: With Schiano and Les Miles (probably) off the table, Brian Kelly never even getting a look, and Kirk Ferentz's on-again-off-again flirtation with the job at an end, where does Michigan turn? There is no name out there, but Michigan fans are getting excited about...Greg Schiano is staying as football coach at Rutgers, rejecting overtures from the University of Michigan.
An offer was never formally made to Schiano, nor were specific contract details discussed, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
But it was understood, the person said, the deal would have had roughly the same framework of one he passed up with Miami last year that would have paid about $2.2 million a year
Les Miles! Which is crazy. But we're all a little crazy these days.

Seriously, how in the hell do you turn down Michigan to stay at Rutgers?
The only logical explanation is that the mob has gotten to Schiano.

I'll tell you why, and I'm a BIG TIME Michigan fan, because Michigan made fools out of itself with the Miles botch that embarrased everyone and with total unethical in its poor choice of time to search.
I say RELAX Michigan, and stop scaring off candidates.

I am an LSU fan. I dont have anything to verify it but it was reported in some places that the Michigan offer to Miles (agent) was almost offensive.
I blame LSU for giving Miles permission to talk to Michigan at a crucial time. And I blame Michigan
for talking to Miles or his agent before the SEC Championship game. Miles had a 1 million dollar raise riding on the game. Wouldnt you be ticked off if you stood to lose a million dollars?
I dont know why Michigan is having a problem getting a new coach. But the Miles situation was botched on all sides....LSU, Michigan and Miles or his agent.

I have to think that Schiano has his eyes on the Penn State job. Joe Pa can't coach forever, Schiano was a coach there, and will surely be candidate number A1 when Paterno does step down. Had he taken the Michigan gig, it would have been nearly impossible to transition to Happy Valley afterwards, right? Not saying Martin shouldn't have interviewed the guy - he would have been a good fit, but I'm sure he's staying at Rutgers until Joe Pa retires or expires.

why would a rutgers coach diss the blue?? why would lester turn down his beloved alma matter?
perhaps they know that michigan will be an empty shell of its former self for a few years to come. maybe they looked at what they have coming back and what they have to work with going forward.they realized that the pressure to produce a team that will be capable of the expected greatness is too much risk for their careers and beyond their capabilities.
i'm born and raised in the square,i hope i'm wrong on this theory.
